i was browsing this site : http://www.hilbrae.co.uk/

and i noticed just how bad it was, i figured it was a home jobby just to get the info out. I am teaching myself bits and pieces and reading a lot of VB and web development stuff and figured i may try and make one for them for free.

It was then that i noticed that it was a professional job, its created by FutureNet Web Designs. ( http://www.fnwd.co.uk/ ).

Check out there 'Pro's and Con's page and then their prices

Would any of you employ this company to build you a site?

So come on, show me the worst web sites youve found in your browsing career... :)

haha, classics. Truly 1990's pre .com bust type jokers.

Not sure what you mean about the prices though - they are ridiculously cheap but end of the day you're getting a worthless product. Good luck to the guy if he's turning a profit - frankly I couldnt be arsed getting out of bed for those sorts of budgets so someone has to do them I suppose.

My  was at the price vs quality, a student in their first week could build better more functional websites.

Personally, its a local dogs home, its also a registered charity. I would have done it for nothing, and i will once i have practised enough. Something clean and crisp but friendly at the same time, a decent system for them to upload pics of the dogs and a link for donating money for them.

We took a load of old blankets down Friday afternoon because it was so cold with the snow, so many lovely dogs there.

Ah I see. I agree with what you're saying. The person doing it probably thinks its a fair price, as they have no clue about actual design and are probably spending a while on speaking to the client, putting it all together etc etc. But yeah, my 9 year old daughter could do a better job of it lol.

http://www.chemiclean.co.uk/ - this is an excellent company its just their website is the worst one on the planet!!!
The shopping system is awful, once you have added something you cant remove it, you cant view your basket either.

thats terrible. what i can't understand is how the heck do people get away with designing a site like this? like if i was the client the designer came back to me with the site looking like that, i would kick his ass. even my first site looks much much better then that.

the company claims "A basic website to display company details Skills used: HTML, CSS, Photoshop"

for this ...

http://www.hattonsltd.co.uk/

Does exactly what it says on the tin, it is very basic - I'm not sure whats so wrong with that page - Except for the fact it could do with some form of info on what the company actually does.

It's done using CSS and validates, however there is still some HMTL formatting that could have been done in the CSS, the HTML validates. And the image at the top of the screen was probably done in Photshop.

Interested to see what you think is wrong with it - I'm still learning and i like to find out what makes other think differently

In my opinion although it's not wrong, all that it is is a letterhead. There is no information about what the company does, no examples of their work, and that's what people want when they browse a website. People browse the internet to gain information, the only reason you'd use this was if you already knew about the company and just wanted to find their phone number, it allows no perspective for reaching new clients. :)

Possibly it's just a holding page, until they can afford a real website - but as i said before agree that it needs some more info on what they do - will hel with google rankings too

your analysis is cool ... but web validation is not much really ... i see where you are looking at it from: the technical aspects of building.

If someone were to ask me do a site like that ... first I'd find out why they didn't want any content on there. At least some text about what they do, where they are, what they sell would benefit them a lot of good. If they still wanted a page like that, I'd walk away .. not worth time of meetings / petrol / invoicing.

Like someone mentioned, it will be an absolute mare of a time to use that site with any hope of getting good google rankings in the future. When your chosen keywords are out of Google top 1000, but Google already knows yours site .. it's a real dog to get top 20 rankings on them. If they are competitve keywords ... then a lot of months and hard work will be required to get keyword rankings.

Does the Hattons one get posted a lot on the web as a bad example? Just it has a Google PR of 4 which isn't too shabby for a site with no discernible content for Google to give it a rank otherwise. Maybe the Hattons developer is smarter than we think... :D
