Hi guys, one thing we've been rubbish at is getting pictures etc for our house, and given we seem to be stuck inside for the long run lets share some interior design.

This is our (small) collection of signed prints

Not much art here then? Bunch of philistines! I guess we have a fair few in comparison then, mostly originals; I prefer to 'save up' for originals rather than prints which I just find unsatsifying on the whole. Only exception being of prints that I could never afford/justify the price of the original, or where it's not for sale, or where actually I want a smaller piece.

Having said that most of the originals we have I wouldn't consider expensive and some people certainly buy prints for more.

All originals apart from the last 2 photos.

We're planning on buying/commissioning a piece from Jody (https://www.instagram.com/jody_artist/) who's work is amazing, and I'd love a piece by Mr Jago (https://www.instagram.com/mr_jago/) who is basically @jsmoke's comment. His ~2x2m originals are ~£16,000 however...

Not exactly what I was looking for but this one nice.

Composition VII by Wassily Kandinsky.

But yeh it's meant to be your own art.

Is that elephant done by a Bristolian artist? I ask as it looks very similar to an artists work that my partner is in some art group for and they often share each other’s work. Think they met at the Bristol Art Battle which my partner won (the other artist was just watching) and she gave her some decent advice about selling and galleries

What is art?

I meant paintings, but then again in the OP that's not the original painting...at least i hope not! :o

totally counts - photography is generally considered art, and original prints from such a well published fashion photographer is pretty neat!

I will get a photo of them later, they were from her earliest work, it's totally different to what she does now. I think I got it in like around 2012, met her in person in Birmingham (I was working there at the time).

Now there is nothing famous or flamboyant about what i have on a few walls but it makes me laugh or smile.
I am a firm believer in liking what you like when it comes to Art. My sister whom studied Art history has tried many times to culture me on the finer things but i have always had an eye for pop art and kitsch.

So i bring to you "junk that i currently have on my walls and a sideways photo frame of a particularly nice cat wallpaper sample i found in a shop in Northern Sweden."

The Jim'll Paint its were a gift from the GF that cleverly grilled me on Thundercats and Starwars one day and i was totally oblivious to her motives.
The IKEA limited edition round cat portraits made me laugh so much i just bought them there and then. Apparently they are some what collectable now.
The BTTF 3 canvas print, which seems to be wonky now, was cool. Originally intended to be part of a cliche movie room decoration that didnt materialise.

I love abstract art too infact most of my art preferences are 20th century or modern.
Anything that gets an emotional reaction from me without being utterly pretentious is a thumbs up.

I couldn't think of no better career than to be a successful artist but id be too weird to create stuff with any mainstream appeal and commercial worth :p

Yeah, Sophie Long. We've got a few of hers; the hex triptych, broken rabbit sculpture and leopard that I posted are all hers. The latter she did as the featured artist at the last Bristol Art Battle. I've been to 3 of them (and one in Bath) so may have seen your partners work, what's their name?

The two abstract landscapes and the piece above our bed that I posted are all from Art Battles.

The elephant you quoted is the original she did at Upfest 2018, she's done some others and prints since as well.

Yes that is her! I'm a big fan of her work. Oh wow really? My partner won the Art battle in June/July of last year I think it was and then was the featured artist at another one a few months later. Was supposed to be another round fairly soon but then the whole pandemic but an end to that.

She painted a whale for the final which won but I annoyingly can't find any good photos of the final piece but this is where a lot of her work is shown.

Edit: Found one, good old iCloud

This is one of them (I have 2)

I actually prefer this one, it came out of her actual portfolio, the one a photographer would take a black A1/A2 folder to magazines to get jobs, like 20 of your best work. This was in her's at that time of her career as she was leaving the UK to move to NYC to pursue her career, so I guess she was leaving behind the fantasitcal side of her work into more editorials. I still have the email chain how I saw the listing for the other print (I need to dig it out of bubble wrap), and I asked if this was on sale as it wasn't listed. I met her (and her bf, now husband) at the time in Starbucks at the Bullring. I remember getting on the train home and it was snowing that day. I paid £400 for the other print and only £100 for this, although it came in a plastic sleeve, straight out of the portfolio, so I framed it by a local bespoke framer.

It's call Yellow Brick Road, was used as a cover on a novel back in 2011. If you search the name you will find it on Pinterest.

Quite a few Terry Bradley Prints and Canvasses.
Holding back the tears, Aslan, Hope, Hope Angel, Eldest daughter has Dead Rabbit in her bedroom and some others, I wouldn't mind a Sailortown print for one of the rooms but the missus isn't so sure.
This Canvas (Holding back the tears) was hand embelished and done on an extra large canvas for us as she knows the guys down at the studio and is probably our favourite. Its approx 8ft wide and covers a fair chunk of the rear house extension wall (2lt bottle for size comparison, canvas coming back down for walls to be painted once extension is finished)
