Was the timing retarded enough on those for an ATRE to be needed? (assuming it is another name for a Suzuki TRE)
I thought something with that grunt wouldn't really be used up to the limiter.

My new bike , well it is as soon as it hits the UK, deposit already down !! Then let the bling begin ! Can't wait :D:D:D

It's not about taking it to the limiter. It's about making it more rideable.
The stock timing is retarded in gears 1 through 3 making the bike behave very oddly when using small throttle adjustments.
Believe me, it made a huge difference to the bike.

Ordered the Tricolore S with the full titanium Termi system and ABS plus slipper clutch and quick shifter as standard :D:cool::D:cool:

Riding Mode
The 1199 Panigale Riding Modes effectively offer the perfect set-up to suit rider and environment. Titled Race, Sport and Wet the modes are pre-programmed to instantly change power delivery (Power Mode), ABS system intervention (if equipped), DTC, DQS and EBC levels, instrumentation layout and in the "S" version the suspension set-up (DES). Each Riding Mode can be modified and saved.

Power Mode
The Power Modes are the different engine mappings which can be selected to change power delivery according to rider style and environmental requirements. For the 1199 Panigale, there are three levels, each one corresponding to a Riding Mode
120hp with smooth throttle response
195hp with smooth throttle response
195hp with direct throttle response

Ride by Wire (RbW)
The Ride-by-Wire (RbW) system is an electronic control device for throttle opening and closing. With no mechanical connection between the twistgrip and the throttle bodies, the engine ECU adjusts power delivery according to the amount of throttle opening. The Ride-by-Wire system enables modified power delivery according to the selected Riding Mode in addition to enabling control for EBC and DTC.

Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES)
The Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES) system by Öhlins enables automatic compression and rebound damping adjustment, ensuring an optimum suspension set-up for each Riding Mode or to suit personal requirements according to riding style.

Ducati Traction Control (DTC)
The Ducati Traction Control (DTC) offers a choice of eight profiles, each one pre-programmed with a wheel-spin tolerance graded from one to eight. Each Riding Mode corresponds to a different, pre-set level of intervention by the system. While level eight administers a confidence-building, high level of interaction from the system by activating upon the slightest detection of wheel-spin, level one offers a much higher tolerance and so reduced intervention for highly competent riders.

Anti Blocking System (ABS) 9ME
The 1199 Panigale introduces the very latest in sport-oriented ABS technology. The three-level ABS 9ME system is fully integrated with the three Riding Modes. When in RACE mode the system enables full ABS on the front only for enhanced track performance.

Engine Brake Control (EBC)
The Engine Brake Control (EBC) system optimises vehicle stability under extreme corner entry conditions by balancing the positive and negative forces of torque subjected to the rear tyre during severe engine-braking. EBC monitors throttle position, gear selected and crankshaft de-acceleration rate and administers precise RbW throttle openings to balance the torque forces acting on the tyre. EBC has a three level operating system and is integrated into the three Riding Modes.
