Show us your current MPG

Not the best that I've gotten out of it but what its showing at the moment.
Honda Civic Type S 2.2

My average is 43.4mpg on my 118d, mostly motorway driving.
I can't seem to get it past this figure though, no matter how slow/fast/careful/harsh I drive?
What's the best way to get max mpg?

And what is wrong with the e46 arrangement of a separate fuel and water temp guage?

:(

They've had that for years, even e21's iirc. All of a sudden, change is good?

Perhaps its because the temp gague had as much use as a warning light? - generally moving past middle once its too late?

Change for the sake of it I guess. :(

You must be driving it like it is stolen!

My old 120D would always give me at least 46MPG on a run and usually on a motorway run between 52 - 54 MPG. I even managed over 60MPG from Greenwich to Solihull keeping to the speed limit and keeping the revs low.

took mine yesterday :)

taken on the daily trip, just before breakfast

and the slightly more longterm view

hasnt been reset for a month or so

bear in mind lots of town driving etc (its a taxi-vectra cdti 150) it gets drove like its stolen most of the time and generally given a good shoeing most of the time)

By the looks of it, driving in a completely different manner to that which you usually drive would help! I get more than that from a 330d.

Drive with anticipation of the road, conditions and traffic ahead, build up speed downhill wherever possible and only tickle the throttle uphill to maintain speed/lose speed slightly. Anticipate what traffic lights or roundabouts will be when you get to them. Basically just try to keep moving at all times rather than stop, don't ever unnecessarily brake (I despise following someone that brakes round corners, for oncoming traffic, because they feel like it), as braking only means you have to re-build that speed back up - which burns fuel.

Smooth is the key.

I'd guess you have never reset the MPG on the OBC? in which case, it'll be giving its overall average over a large distance and it'll never move.

A good case in point,it always reads 8.76 MPG on my "Route 2" in my Scania's trip computer, it nerver moves, but has not been reset in 12,655miles!

The figure for "Route 1" does vary considerably, but I reset it weekly. :)

I don't drive it like it's stolen! I think I drive pretty smoothly, stick to the limits, approach traffic lights/junctions slowly with minimal braking etc.
Perhaps what R420XXXXXXXX said is right, I probably need to reset the trip computer.
I'll need to look up the manual as I have no idea how to reset it :o

Good thread. Plenty of answers. Bit shocked how thirsty a lot of cars are though!

1927 Ford with 1947 4 litre V8 and 5 speed box: just under 30mpg average.
