Agreed, but if I'm going to buy, I might as well buy a reasonable quality one whilst I've got the cash.

Unless there is something new on the horizon....hmmm

If I had the money I'd probably buy a large second hand intuos2. Could run it into the ground and not really care about having something brand new and fancy :)

Here's the brushes I used for that last image btw, I know you were wondering earlier Big Cheese:

Chalk brush
Soft edge round brush
Textured round brush(for blocking in initially)

Great stuff, thanks for sharing Shifty! :D

Hmmmm, I'm supposed to be working but I think I might just give something a go...see what I can come up with in 15 minutes...no pressure. :D

I'm going to use your tip of not having a white background though, t'is a really good idea!

I *may* post the result if it's not laughably child like.

lol I will when I've finished. :p

I've ended up saying stuff the work for tonight, I'm actually having fun, then I got distracted when the missus came home...I'm a bit embarrassed to show her so I'm waiting till she goes goes to bed then I'm carrying on with it.

I think it was Da Vinci who said never draw your friends or family because they'll/you'll forever be striving for pure likeness!

Well, I'm failing to get a complete likeness with this one :p

It feels wrong commenting on your work but I would suggest bringing her jaw down a little, opening her mouth and making her eye a bit brighter, and for my impudence I'll upload my first go (in progress)...

Here we go, my first ever attempt at digital painting...or any painting / drawing apart from a couple of Garfield doodles come to that!

Don't laugh, and obviously it's only part way through. :p

I realise now that she's slumping too much. :(

One of my coursework pieces back when I was at school.

Sketched out, scanned, then coloured and finished off in Photoshop in case anyone was wondering.

I'm not sure I understand 'digital' painting. Is it not just creating a layer over your original image and then just fiddling and using it like its tracing paper? It looks effective but I can't help feel it looks good because its so easy to manipulate? After all, you've got a tool to match the colours. All you need to do is select a brush, drop the opacity of your 'digital' layer and trace away?

edit;

this post just sounds rude. I've looked over some more of the digital paintings in this thread and can see it involves some skill, but why not try the real thing?
