Inspired by the man jobs / garden thread I thought I'd start a thread for your most recently decorated room. I love looking on AVForums and stuff at what people do with their homes. I can't compete with my Ikea furniture and modest budget but I'll try!

Before and after photos would be good, but I forgot the before photos on mine! :p

We decorated our bedroom most recently. We've lived here for 5 years and our room is the last to be decorated. It's become the junk room after my son was born (previous junk room) and the hall way became an office. It's been long overdue!

The plan... To Sketch-Up!

Complete lack of storage before, so this new layout provides my wife with about 5 drawers extra. She's gained the entirety of the centre wardrobe and I've got the narrow one (and shelving for t-shirts). All Ikea. Already owned bed and big Pax wardrobe.

All decorated.

Bed. Bedding from Dunelm. Some LED lights at the back of the bed. Really relaxing when watching TV in bed, as opposed to bed side lights.

New wardrobes. Malm unit has a built in mirror for the wife to use to get ready with. Slim Pax unit and Malm unit replace the 80cm Malm drawers we used to have.

Chandelier from BHS. Half price. Bulbs were apparently £20 each from there... Ikea - £4. No brainer! Curtains from Dunelm.

Closer shot.

TV, which we wanted quite flat to the wall with a bit of tilt. £15 bracket holds it nice and firm with adjustable(ish) tilt. It's a Panasonic LED/LCD with side and rear ports so it's pretty slim and can go nice and close:

Freeview HD currently running off an old telescopic style aerial strategically bunged in cupboard! :D

To do -

  • Wiring in cupboard for networking, HDMI etc
  • Get a Panasonic soundbar, when it drops in price!
  • Bluray player in cupboard
  • Put DLNA server in cupboard
  • Trim doors. New carpet is almost an inch thicker than last!
  • Properly route an aerial and splitter into cupboard for TV and maybe network cable (currently under carpet!)
  • Couple of small shelves?

For those interested, jobs done:

  • New skirting
  • New door + furniture
  • Removal of wooden curtain 'holder' from above window (grr!)
  • Sunk plug sockets
  • Fitted a cable cavity socket for wires into cupboard
  • Plasterboarded above door and rebuilt door frame (old doors smaller, glass above doors old fashioned)
  • All walls papered. "Heston" Beige (Graham & Brown) and "Nicky Rose" (Arthouse)
  • Dulux Satinwood 'Once' gloss. Twice.
  • New curtain rail and hold-backs
  • New switch and socket fronts
  • New carpet. Quite a long pile, synthetic. 69(!) Vanilla colour. feelsgoodman.jpg

So nice to actually have a bit of a sanctuary!

Now, let's see some proper jobs! :D

Just noticed, the door by the tv is closed at the top and half open at the bottom?

Yeah, photos were taken right after carpet was fitted and furniture moved back in. Doors are now properly fitted after a couple of cm were taken off.

Need a higher bed, thats too low for me.

Wife feels the same. Gotta stay though, budget didn't stretch to new bed.

Glad to see positive comments to inspire others to post! :p

So far we have had some Sharps bedroom furniture fitted, expensive but in my opinion worth every penny. Especially with the roof shape we only had limited options:

Excuse the mess, you can tell my gf has been at work for a while and has been left to me to make bed and tidy up!

We also got Sky Multiroom installed however the only way we could get the cable in was via the outside wall which is in the small cupboard:

Wires :(

To do:

Purchase a new tv, ideally the Samsung LED tv we have in the front room and install nice and flush against the wall.

Need all wires to be hidden out of sight.

Install downlighters, really do hate the 'pendant' light fittings and would much prefer the cleaner and more modern look the downlighters give.

Choose colour scheme - wallpaper and carpet. Think we will keep with the purple for the walls and get a darker coloured carpet which I hope will give a nice 'romantic' atmospehere to the room. At the moment it is very magnolia!

In one of the pictures you can see we also have an en-suite, we would also like this fully tiling out and add storage...really do not like the lino put down however we needed something to cover chipboard flooring when we moved in.

The rest of the house is due a massive overhaul after our wedding in June so will hopefully have lots of updates for you all :)

Wife and I both love purple, but we did our living room with a purple wallpaper on the fireplace, purple curtains etc. Both love that wood colour and fitted wardrobes too, but couldn't afford to replace a wardrobe and bed we already had in birch.

Those wardrobes really give you a lot of space. Is there much unused in terms of cupboard space?
