Gave mine a clean after a few weeks of our terrible weather! Changed the horrid orange reflectors out for some cleaner clear ones. And I'm happy with it now :)

Really lovely example you got there. They are all normally rot boxes by now. Especially an early 01 like yours!

I don't hate black wheels, but they are just increasingly common on less-good newer cars. And if you see a slightly knackered old E46 or E90, odds are it will have black wheels and a black grille.

Two-tone diamond cut (as above) is best IMO. When I was buying my car, the vast majority have the black pack, which means the lovely wheel design is just painted in plain black. However, the standard is a diamond cut silver finish which looks great.

Also, from a longer distance you can't really see the detail on a black wheel, and most people leave them and the tyres dirty, which makes it look even worse.

I like two tone diamond cut myself but my last car had such wheels and I fancied something different.

I really like the black grill/ rear diffuser/ wheels on the 5 series and think they match well with the blue of my own but I can see myself upgrading to 20” diamond cuts when finances allow.

The BMW individual 20's for your 5 Series are a very nice wheel. I think they're called the 759i.

You missed mine :p

To be fair I'm not gone on my set with black wheels, even if I go full "murdered out" the style isn't right - but they were nearly £300 off on a Black Friday deal and used on a set of wheels/tyres used mainly for off-road/dead of winter.

Black wheels are really hard to get right - a car done like Phil's really needs them but the style and shade/tone has to work with the rest - unfortunately I don't have a good picture of it, this was just taken from another photo showing something else, but like a car my brother had for awhile:

It only looked right on black wheels.

Ps. we can’t see the wheels

Ps. we can’t see the wheels

I don't have any other pictures of it.

Mine was in reference to my pickup as I made up a set of all-terrain wheels with black rims as they were cheaper for something which only get occasionally used - but in hindsight I'd have paid the extra for silver or a different style in black if I went full murdered out.

But you can see the uncommon bit which is the wheel design. This colour on the F Type, just wouldn’t work with black wheels.

Now that's what you call a lip on the tyre. Nice protective lip on the rear.

Now WTF don't all tyres do this!.... Instead of this garbage...

Hold on, does Gibbo own a Ferrari and DRZ lease a Macca, and Rroff own a pickup, and Jonney simp JLR? All gimmicks delivered in sequence at such pace!

Had the same with my Polo GTI running the standard tyre size (Identical to yours) 215/40/18.

Even with brands which are known for having a considerable amount of rim protection it was still not enough to save you in a situation where you meet a kerb.

Knowing a few owners had no issues fitting 225/40/18’s I decided to do the same (Significantly cheaper too, £64.50 a corner with some discount codes for Dunlop Sportmax RT2’s in 225/40/18 which if I recall correctly were over £125 in 215/40/18)

But with the larger tyre I now have a lovely large amount of rim protection which hopefully I will never need, less pleasing on the eye but I can live with it.

Let’s be honest then. Why wouldn’t he have missed it out compared to using my picture (of a performance car) posted only hours earlier?

ChatGPT show me a builder spec red neck wanna be pick up truck…. Ps With black wheels. Mind boggles.

@Gilbert89

My picture with the JCW wheel is already a size up. 215 instead of 205.

I can't see a pattern that guarantees a good level of protection. Some PS5's come with a fat lip and some don't.
