That noise, if it's from the gearbox, either means it's knackered or straight-cut...to me it sounds like straight cut gears
Got a video of it from the inside, without any music etc over the top of it?
Not sure that is straight cut to be honest, the mini's I have been in before have all had whiney gearboxes, so i have a feeling it is just the way they are. I am also pretty sure straight cut gears would be a LOT louder than that in the car
Picked up my new MX-5 last night, very pleased with it so far, had a lovely drive home in the sun and stopped off for a photo:

So naturally the summers just finished, torrential rain last and looks like its going to be a bit grim over the weekend :([/QUOTE]
I think they are fantastic cars. :)
Lovely car but they look jacked up to me.

So close with that number plate too.
That ones seems to have straight cut gears, the whine is always there, where as yours only seems to show up on the video when you are accelerating, and not so much when at a constant speed
Good grief, how could anyone stand that noise all the time! ...it started to grate on me just watching the video.
You'll probably laugh at this now ...but I find when I play Grand Turismo 5 and I put a fully customisable transmission into a car (they make the same sort of noise) I have to turn the sound down quite low as it gets on my nerves so much
