I have to make a PDF file less than 500kb

I scanned in the document I needed, couldn't scan as a PDF so I made it into a jpeg. Then pasted the jpeg into Word2003 and saved it as a .doc
Then I converted the .doc to a .pdf using a free online converter.

The PDF is now 650kb. I must reduce this to <500kb. Any help would be appreciated. I only have Acrobat Reader not Acrobat Pro.

Another way you could do it, is if you used OCR from the scanner, to directly scan into word, turning the document into words, instead of a picture. and then, turning it into a pdf?
