This is quite odd... when I hit shut-down on my PC it actually reboots, meaning I cant hit "Shut down" and then leave my pc to it, I have to wait for it to restart and hit the power button.

However when at a friends house with my PC it shut down fine...

What the devil is going on!

I think my PC is haunted :(

What did you take to your friends house? Just the PC or the PC and every single thing that you normally have plugged in while at home?

Is this some issue with the HAL and ACPI? I vaguely remember reading something about this somewhere.

HAL? No crazy AI's in my PC thankyouverymuch!
(I have no idea what you meant :p)

I took everything except my USB wireless network card, we played wired.
Hmm.... will have to test it.

you dont have wake on LAN or anything like that turned on in the BIOS do you?

I was just about too post that then. Check your bios first before you do anything else.

It probably blue screens or something just before it finished shutting down. By default it'll be set to reboot. You can check this by opening up the system properties on the control panel. Go Advanced > startup and recovery settings. Then there'll be a tick box to automatically restart upon a system failure. Untick this and you'll probably get a blue screen on shutdown, and should be able to work out what's causing it.

Mine did this..

Was to do with my monitor (with usb hub) being plugged in the wake-on usdb ports..... even though it was off in bios.

Solution, moved ports.

It'll be a usb thing methinks... play with bios or physical ports.

Well my USB is extremly problematic, and completely-not-hot-pluggable. If I unplug something that may be in use (USB network card) = BSOD. Never had this on my old PC :/
/cry
Will play with the BIOS next reboot, and have killed the "auto restart" :)
