Okay I've been trying to quieten my system today and I've come to realise that my 6800GT is the cause of the noise. I've found this out by removing my case fans and having a minimum speed on my CPU fan.

I've using a Leadtek 6800GT AGP and I was wondering if the Artic Cooling fans are actually quieter ? ...are there any other solutions??

Pleeeeeaaaaaaaaaaase help !

Remove the fan and replace it with a bit of cake or something?

But if you want quiet and effective I think you want a Zalman cooling solution.

Aaaahhhhhh, carrot cake ?? :)

Is the 'Zalman VF700-CU Quiet Copper VGA Cooler ' really much quiter than a standard gfx fan?

Its silent. You also have the choice of using either the 2 or 3 pin fan header on it to increase/decrease the noise/fan speed. Even on low speed the temps are approx 20c lower than stock!

Your fan should only be full speed booting up before nvidia driver takes control due to current temps, hmm, edit bios same as my post other day showed and set 2D and or 3D fan speeds, but yes a rev 3 nv silencer is great, I fitted one to my agp 6800Ultra and modded both 2D and 3D bios settings to be 100% fan speed all the time as its so quiet.

Well when idle it's at about 55°C, but it's still to loud for my liking....I've no idea if it's at 100% or not.
I mean I have narrowed it down to my gfx card fan. All I have left is my Enermax Noisetaker PSU fan and my Zalman CPU fan, both of which I think are quiet. I've currenty removed all my case fans too.

Well lower the 2D volts also, if its 350mhz or bellow you can safely set volts for 2D to 1.1v and you wont get any issues in any 2D intensive apps like CAD.

On the front yes, but not on the back. If you have a Leadtek 6800GT you can use the existing backplate. Don't forget to leave the small heatsink to the right on. With the Leadtek card the Artic Cooler plug doesn't fit onto the header on the graphics card so you'll need to mod it

Personally I'd get the Zalman cooler. This comes with heatsinks for all of the memory chips and it is very quiet on 5V (you can choose to run it of 5V or 12V just by pugging the power into different connectors)

Yes artic Nv silencer 5 rev 3 comes with backplate for your ram, Im very happy with it on my agp 6800Ultra running 475/1250 so far, I dont need backplate only 7800's do.

I think the peep above means to leave the voltage mosfets heatsink in place.

So the Zalman gfx fan can completely replace my Leadtek stock fan, and should be much quieter.

Silly question, but is it removable ?

edit : ignore that question, it says that it is in the item description.

my 6800gt was pretty noisy even after it had auto slowed down a bit, was still ticking over at 65% fan speed, so i use "EXPERTool" to keep it on 50% 2D and 50% 3D and only turn the 3D up to 75% when playing games, can't hear it now :) give EXPERTool a try, its on gainwards www site, free tool and works with a lot of 6800s'.
