Running XP pro on my laptop: When I try to shutdown, I get a dialogue box thingy rather than the usual buttons; would like to just have the buttons; any ideas how to change this?

Thanks in advance.

Do you mean you are getting the dialogue with the dropdown list of options instead of the dialogue with the 3 buttons? If so I think this is tied into whether you use the regular windows login or welcome screen. Try loading the user accounts applet in control panel then click "Change the way users log on or off" and then tick "Use the welcome screen" and apply, you should have the buttons now.

Yeah, it is a pull down menu dialogue rather than the buttons one.

I get the following when I try to get into "change the way people log on etc".

"client services for netware has disabled the welcome screen ans fast user switching. to restore these features, you must uninstall client services for netware"

I've tried disabling the service but seems to make no difference.

Any other ideas?

Uninstall netware.

yup. if it's not in add/remove programs, then goto the properties of your network connection and you should be able to uninstall it from there.....

assume you're not needing it to connect to a netware network of course... :p

One solution would be to make a shortcut to c:\Windows\System32\Shutdown.exe And simply run the shortcut. Not sure how to get it to return to the normal shutdown dialog though, sorry.

if it's not in network properties like i said.....
