Shutdown issues - IE...I can't!

Au Revoir,

I have a really annoying issue with my iMac...the bloody thing won't turn off!

If I tell it to shutdown or restart, which admittedly is rare anyway for me but still, it's annoying! :p

If I tell it to do either it will close all my apps and just sit on the desktop doing nothing.

I'm on Mavericks btw, has anyone else had this issue? Eventually I either button it or if I leave it for a good 10 minutes, it does shut down.

Have you checked Activity Monitor to see what is running before you shutdown?

I find this normally happens if I have left an app running in another space that needs me to confirm a dialog box.

I did before, but I will check again next time. My thoughts were about an app hanging as well.
