Shutdown problem

Few days ago my rig started acting up when I shut it down after the normal few seconds the display turns off but the computer itself will not shut off.
I have run antispyware in safe mode as well as in normal mode also the same with the antivirus too.
Even done a system restore back before it started acting up but nothing. Anyone else had this ever or any suggestions/hep would be good.

added any more software in this time? I'd try closing everything through processes before shutting down (all applications) see if it still happens.

Windows reinstall would cure it, but be a pain in the XXXX
