shutdown shortcut on desktop

Hi is there anyway to have a shut down shortcut on the desktop in win 10, my mother is finding it hard to remember how to shut down her pc, so thought I would ask ?

You can create a batch file with the shutdown command. Works a treat.

Open notepad

Put something like

Code:

SHUTDOWN /S /T 15

in it.
Save it as ShutdownPC.cmd
Put a shortcut to that on the desktop

What about setting the physical power button on the pc to shut down and using that?

Maybe right clicking on the start icon would be more obvious as it actually says shut down but the physical power button is a good shout.

If she's on Windows 10, it won't truly shut down, but will go into a pants hibernation mode - so you'll need to 'reg hack' that first:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power]
"HiberbootEnabled"=dword:00000000

I'd then go for the quick shutdown shortcut:

shutdown.exe -s -f -t 0
