Hi guys this is a newly built rig and everything is sweet but i was playing cyrsis (which plays well) came out after approx 20 mins got to desktop and clicked on "core temp" nothing happend for a couple of seconds then the system just shut off!

upon reboot it did the hdd scan passed that then went straight to the desktop there was no "your system has recoverd from a serious error" message so i carried on as normal it's done it again since but not for the last 24hrs.

but what has happend i started "sp2004" to stress the system within 2 hours the system had shut it's self off i can't be exact as i fell asleep on me bed lol. no errors once back in the o/s

I checked my bios and accourding to the asus webby it was a beta one anyway i have downgraded the bios to an earlier one as the latest one i got was corrupt lol so i had to recover from that :S

if there is a setting i'm missing in the bios or windows that could cause the shutdown let me know please psu is a hiper 580 not the type "R"

tell you the truth i'm a little puzzled :S

Sounds temperature related more than anything, try booting from cold, running Core Temp and intialise the logs so it'll record temperatures, then start up Prime95 and stress it until it restarts. When it's restarted, come back into Windows, open the logs and check the temperatures to make sure that at the point where the system died it wasn't overheating. I'd also keep an eye on other temperatures like GPU / motherboard. You can use something like Everest for recording those temperatures to a log file while stressing the machine.

gave it ago ran core temp whislt sp2004 was running and everest and temps for the cpu did not go over 45c on both cores and since i have downgraded the BIOS to a earlier none beta one it's not crashed ran the stress for 6 hrs i know thats not long but seems to have worked.

cheers
