I had this problem where when i play games my pc just shuts down and only while playing games, it stopped doing it but since yesturday it started doing it again,
i loaded up the sims 4 just now played it for 5mins and thought ill look inside my pc and my fans work on my graphics card but as i touched the side it burnt my hand so why is it getting stupidly hot? because i think thats why it shuts down, i even have the side of the pc off to keep it cool

Download a temp monitor, check the temps of your graphics card. If it is getting "stupid" hot then it can be the cause of the shutdown.

Maybe unplug the card and see if it needs to be cleaned out?

AMD 7970 graphics card
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z77X-UD3H motherboard
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3
i5 3570k

I downloaded speccy and my ram is 1866mhz
but on speccy it says this
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Am i only getting 665 mhz ?

I went into bios and i changed my profile to profile 1 on the memory i now have it at:
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 934MHz (10-11-10-30)
could the ram be the problem why its shutting down?
and i dno how to get it higher than that MHz

Dual channel so you double it. As for the memory causing shut down, perform a memtest to rule it out. I would monitor temps to see if anything obvious showed.

Okay i loaded up warfare since putting the ram MHz higher and i kept speccy loaded, the game didnt crash this time but i saw a temp of 81 c on my graphics card
everything else was 40 or under
does that seem fine?

81 during gaming is fine. Bit warm but shouldn't cause a shutdown. 60 degrees at idle is a concern though. Should be idling around 31-32. Single monitor?

Given I too have a Asus 7970, I would suggest that gpu temp is a on the high side. :(

I'd suggest, check your gpu fans are running...and check what fan speed option you have selected for the graphics card.

Okay now no game has been running for over 10 mins now the temp is at 51 c but wont go under 50 at all im using a tv screen instead of a monitor and only 1 as well
also in the AMD Radeon Settings in Global OverDrive the fan speed is on auto at 62%, it was 70% when the temp was at 60 c so the fan speed changes

What case is the PC in, what case fans do you have, and what are their directions of flow?
What cpu cooling are you using?

Zalman z11 case, and ive taken the side panel off to have better air flow, and my cpu cooling is:
Arctic UCACO-FI30001-GB Freezer I30 CPU Cooler with 120mm Fan
