Hi, I have a XFX 8800gt, I want to turn the fan off but all the software I can find only lets it down to 25%, anyone know how you get it lower than that ?

i think ntune may allow you to stop the fan, if i were you, i'd rip off the stock cooler and put on a Accelero S1,it's a passive cooler

Can't you install a different cooler? I use an Accelero S1 Rev.2 with a 600RPM 120mm fan and it's all but silent.

It has a fan on there for a reason, if you turn it off it will probably break.

I'm prepared to underclock it if I have to - this is just for when I want to leave my computer on while sleeping for downloads, tv recordings etc. But there is very good airflow with good quality silent fans.

For the Accelero S1 Rev.2, would that mean I would have to take off the cover of the 8800gt and fix it to chip ?

You would have to remove the stock cooler and fit the new one. I will post a pic of mine in a minute.

My 8800GT is very quiet, you sure its the 8800GT making the noise? I'm 99% sure my 8800GT auto adjusts the fan speed based on ambient temps

The stock cooler was very loud if running at 35%+. If it is loud at less than that it's probably worn bearings causing it.

Yh it defo is the 8800gt, mine is quite an early one I believe and is always on :p - it does auto adjust but it is always loud

Ok thanks Raikiri ;)

I have a zalman fan monted on a 8800gt as purchased with extreme OC, on mine i could just pull the fan power plug, just its sat in a box doing nothing

Ok thanks Raikiri ;)

Sorry that second pic is so bad, battery died before I could get a decent one.

could try it passive as well. I have an overclocked 3870 which runs with an S1 and no fan. Very quite then :D

if you want it quiet for downloading while you are asleep why not just pop the card out?

You're assuming he A: has built in graphics and B: can be bothered removing and installing the card every night/morning.

For the cost of a cooler (I paid £12 iirc) he may as well just buy one.

1:1 the same

I put a trad2 on my 8800gt (the accelero would be too big for my case - Coolermaster ATCS 110)
