I looking to build a beastly shuttle.. but i was wondering on a few questions..

  • Will a shuttle be happy running a 8800 GTS ? I know most new shuttles have a 400watt psu is this going to be enough?
  • Do any shuttle have a Dolby Digital LIVE! chip for 5.1 realtime encoding?
  • Do any Shuttles have built in bluetooth support or will i deffinetly have to get an external USB adapter :(

Any info on those questions will be good, i just couldnt find the answer on the main shuttle site.

the main reason i've bought a sugo and matx board is that the sound on the shuttles are meant to be a little pants.

The sugo is a little bigger yes, but atleast i can get my DDLive sound card in there as well as more HDD's!

as of last night running an 8800gtx in my SD37P2 [400w PSU], shuttle also list 8800gtx as tested and supported on an SN26P, which is a surprise to me tbh

afaik no native bluetooth or onboard 5.1 live, at present

Well I have a 25P (with mp3's) and the sound into a reasonably decent amp and hi-fi speakers is pretty good by all accounts - certainly indistinguishable from a cd played on a hifi seperate cd player into the same amp

But to be fair I havent heard any other HTPC / shuttle types and the amp & speakers are over 10 years old so it could just be my dodgy hearing

The SD37P2 has networking built in so just a wifi router is needed, plugged into the network socket ?

The sound is OK, not as good as aftermarket cards though.

The PSU in this one seems OK, the first SD37P2 I bought is being repaired by Shuttle after the PS went pop and burst into flames after about 5 or 6 hours use!!!!

Ah yeah i was very keen on a SUGO at first.. although after looking into the mATX market i didnt really see any MOBOs that offered any benefits.. IE DDlive or built in bluetooth..

Unless you know of any :)

My current tower PC has a SB X-fi Fatlity in.. which is a nice card but dosnt offer 5.1 via digital in games which is somthing ive always wanted.. but saying that maybe its time i got a new amp which offers 5.1 analog inputs.. i just dont know :)

you won't find a shuttle or matx board afaik which will offer DD Live. You'd be better going for an M-Atx setup and getting a DDLive sound card and a bluetooth adaptor

Enen if you get a 5.1 amp with analogie inputs you'll only get pro logic from it and not true DD.

This is very true... hmmm i shall give it a rethink then maybe the Sugo is the way forward. What are they like for cooling / noise levels as id want a Pc that can be on 24/7 andnotdisturbe my slumber :)

EDIT: Saying that... ive just found this Intel® Desktop Board DG965OT Micro ATX and features DolbyDigital Live.. nice :)
