Every now and again during sometimes no cpu activity my machine freezes and I have to reboot but sadly on most occasions it fails to boot at all.

The machine powers up yet no boot screen appears and I'm forced in to clearing the CMOS and once I configure the CMOS all is ok but only for a short time (number of start ups)

I've had to do this on a number of occasions now and it's beginning to bug the crap out of me.

Could it be the CMOS battery has had it's day?

Please help!

You should be able to buy a cmos battery for £1 - £2 from shops/supermarkets and a lot less on the web if you buy 10 at a time. :)

Not certain is only a bios battery problem, but if you replace the old battery you won't waste hours looking at the rest of your system if this was the cause. Have had a few intermittent start systems and often it was caused by a dying power supply.
Start with battery first and I would post your system spec on this thread and any recent changes you have done, flashed the bios? new drive?, memory etc. :)
