First off hello everyone!

Grrrr this is bugging me and becoming more frequent, when i turn on the computer it will often hang on the bios startup, not even posting, turn it off and 8/10 times it will work, failing that another reboot and we are away. It does it when i exit the bios too. I have my spec in the sig, and have disabled all overclocks, upgraded to the latest bios and tried all i can think off. Any ideas or advise would be welcome. As you can see i get a half post but mouse and keyboard are not operational and the system will stay in that state until i reboot

Spec
SN78SH7 Shuttle - Windows 7 Pro AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition - Zotac 9800GT ECO Edition - SSD 80GB Intel X25-M - WDSE16 500GB - Corsair XMS2 4GB PC2-8500C5 DDR2 TwinX Dual Channel

I would try and play around with the setup by changing one thing at a time, unplug one of the hard drives, try only one RAM stick etc. If you find a config that works without ever hanging, then you have isolated the problem and know what to work on. I have seen that behaviour when I forgot to 'Reset BIOS Defaults' after flashing a BIOS. The jumper reset did not work in that case and I needed to reset from within the BIOS. Play around with it and report what you find.

OKay next thing to try is ram.

Have you got anything non-standard. E.g add in sata card, or raid card? As I had major troubles with an add-in satacard not posting.

Have you got a speaker plugged into the board?

Does it make the post noise?

i think i have found the issue..... internal card reader! - connected via the USB header, i have unplugged this and now for 5 days i have not had the issue, mem test passed about 8 times when i left it running for 16 hours :D

this question is... do i get another internal card reader or just accept that this shuttle may have trouble posting with a card reader always on!

dunno if its the card reader or the shuttle, will keep testing for a week or so, don't really wanna get another one to have the same issue

How old is the card reader? Did you check the pin outs to see if all the power and ground cables correspond with the pin out on the mobo header? Some older card readers had a diff pin out for USB1 spec headers.

headers arnt working.

usbs dont work.

The wireless header (usb) wirks intermittently.

Rubbish.

I will try figure it out... but unfortunately exams come first!

seems a strange one. what shuttle is it again?

mine is just a case of does not always boot with the card reader plugged in

ah I see, glad its fixed. Mine is a C2D on a Zotac 9300 Wifi.

Im getting very strange harddrive lag issues as well.

Must stop talking computers and start revising!!!!!
