Hi guys,
So I got my self a shiny new 40" Tosh Regza LCD and thought I'd use my Shuttle for some HTPC loving. It's the one in the sig. minus and plus a few things..
minus the 2 SATA hard disks and replaced with a single 150gb IDE drive
minus the Audigy 2 NX and replaced with an internal Creative X-fi
minus the OCZ and replaced with 2 x 1gb Crucial RAM
so not ideal for an HTPC but I thought I'd play around then spec. up from there...
to the problem.... I stupidly thought about upgrading the CPU and picking up a Athlon64 3400 (socket 754) on the cheap and upgrading which I duly did.
AS3'd the CPU carefully, installed it...
The PC constantly crashed under heavy or sustained load.... temp. is my first thought... installed CoreTemp and sure enough it's idling at 55c and reaching 120c(!!!!) then shutting down...
I had no problems with the previous CPU so this is frustrating... do I give the new CPU the boot, try and sort out this problem, or ditch the ice pipe thing that comes with the Shuttle and buy a proper cooler (keeping in mind I want it as quiet as poss.)
Can anyone help?
P.S. I'm running Vista Ultimate if that makes a difference and that was part of the shift to new CPU and HTPC duties...
