Was just having a general think and is it possible to remove the mainboard from a shuttle and put it inside a small Lian Li case with everything else and buy a proper PSU. I like everything as it is at the moment, but I'm restricted with graphics cards due to having to buy one with a single slot cooler and also worry about the limits of the PSU.

(Before people say anything, yes I did realise all this when I bought it)

It's possible, but it won't be straight forward. You'll certainly have to do some cutting and drilling on the new case to make the motherboard fit.

The biggest problem will be matching up the back panel connectors and the expansion slots for the graphics card etc. as I don't think they will be the same distance apart as they would in a standard mATX board. One of the first things I would do is measure up a full size system and your shuttle and compare the two.

You will also probably have to drill your own holes to put in the risers that keep the motherboard off the tray. Not too difficult as long as you make sure you get them in the right place and the right size.

The other thing you need to check is what CPU cooler you're going to use. Would you keep the shuttle one? And if not, are there the right fittings/screw holes on the motherboard to replace it?

PK!

Yeah that's the issues I was thinking, would the holes line up on the board and in the case and would the back plate be in the right position, along with the graphics card slot at the back.

I'd not even thought about the holes for the cooler being different though lol.

Cheers for the help, looks like it might not be worth while, having to spend money on a board as well and sorting everything out then reinstalling my OS and everything else. I'll stick with the shuttle.

as for the size of the gfx card you can cut out a section of the outer case. has been done on many shuttles a quick google should get you a few images and maybe a few walk throughs.

as for power.. im not sure which shuttle PSU gfx combo you have or thinking about but those lil shuttle PSUs are quite the workhourses. last i checked it was usually just the very highest end gfx cards they have trouble with. so duel gfx solutions generally not advised, but to big for a shuttle anyway.
