Shuttle Mod... slimline DVD drive ?

OK i seem to have run out of internal SATA ports in my shuttle, i did purchase a PCI card with SATA ports, but it adds an extra 10 seconds to boot time and i swear my SSD does not run as quick when plugged into it! (only works if the default drive is in the pci card)

So I currently have these two internal ports and at present have my SSD and my normal hardrive. I was thinking about getting a slimine external optical drive and then placing it inside the case and somehow powering it using the internal USB header? If such a cable exists and it has enough juice?

I don’t currently own any optical drives so i need to buy one anyhow, i would appreciate any thoughts on this

Do you really need an optical drive for it?

I'd either save your money and get a normal sized one, or just get an external usb one and use that for all machines..

just been doing some research and drawing all the power from the mobo for this is not a good idea, so looks like i might have to just get an external one, i rarely use the drive, but do still need it for certain things

Why not just get an IDE optical drive?

Know what you mean about the lack of sata ports its a real pain. I've been looking into those IDE to SATA plugs.

could do, however the ide dvd drives are longer and with the chunky ide cable hampers airflow, furthermore, its good to disable ide in the bios, pc boots quicker

ah fair enough, didn't know that :-)

I figured airflow might be a bit of a problem though. My 9800gt just arrived, lets see how that helps airflow lol

i doubt it makes much diffirence, i am just fuzzy or anal

- keep me posted as to the 9800Gt, mine should be here today too, but out tonight so might not get a chance to fit it
