Hi all, im just about to take more first step into the world of SFF so bare with me :p Interested in the Shuttle SN25P but I would also like to use 1 of the AMD 64 X2 duel core processors, are they compatable out of the box or do they need some sort of BIOS update?

My next question is, that id like to use my Connect3d AT x1800 XT 512mb graphics card in there as well. Im not much of a DIY person so could somebody explain to me how difficult this would be to get in the SN25P?

Many thanks in advance :)

I've got a 4800X2 and a 1800XL in mine no problem. You can take out the wind shroud in the shuttle if it interferes with the gfx card with no negative affect on cooling.

You should be fine, its a good idea to get the latest bios for the shuttle anyway but shouldnt be a necessity with a later build box.

Built mine a week ago and got the following in there.

AMD 64 X2 4400 (running at 2.6ghz at default volts with more to come :D)
ATI X1900XT (Clocked past XTX speeds)
1gb Mem (soon to be 2gb)
2 Sata HDDS
1 Optical Drive

The X1900 needed the Shroud to be removed and it blocks the additional PCI-E slot, and the CPU worked without a bios update straight out of the box.

The only mod i have done is to make sure the fan on the PSU is blowing outward and removed the grill onthe PSU fan.

This coupled with the disconnection of the 2 60mm Case fans has resulted in a very quiet, very powerfull SFF machine.

The CPU idles at 34-36 degs and peaks at 44-46 degs under load.

enjoy

Thanks for your replys :)

Last noob question before I order, does the shuttle come with its own CPU heatsink/cooler? Or do i need to get my own? I have an arctic cooler but I assume its too big :p

Great thanks very much :)

1 last request, has anyone got a pic of their x1800/x1900 in an sn25p? Im quite worried about the card fitting, Is it an easy installation? Ive never been one for DIY, and I dont want to remove half of the systems fans etc to fit it in and end up with sky high temps! :)

There's a piccy of my 512MB 7800GTX in the "will it fit" thread...

Search it out, im sure someone mentioned a new X1900 card in there too ;)

Thanks so much cmt, thats giving me the confidence to put my order in. Watch out ocuk! :p

Get it done :D

I removed the PSU fan grill to help with noise and temps.

It allows much better airflow and drops tems by a degree or two.

Wonder if one of thoe accelero coolers would fit inside the shuttle on the x1900, id originally thought the top of the card would be a lot closer to the top of the case but from that pic it looks like theres a good few inches to spare. Then again its either have a noisy card (going by some opinions) while retaining a cool case, or having a cool (ish) card while the accelero dumps all the hot air inside the case.

It only ever 'spins up' when playing games, and i have the speakers on (not loud - kids!!!) and it is not over noisy.

I thought of the Accelero coolers, but dont really want hot air dumped into the case faster than it can be expelled.

with the back of the card being so close to the mesh 'intak' on the shuttle case it gets plent of cool air and never getsup to full speed anyway.

ive had a change of heart now, ive decided to build a new SFF system from scratch and my new plan is now to get a SN26P and a 7900 GT. (for possible SLI in future) Any probs with that?

Does this really improve airflow that much? It makes it cooler than the standard setup?

The removal of any object in the path of the cooling airflow will always have a positive effect on noise and cooling.
