Hi guys. I'm after upgrading my gfx on my shuttle unit. Now I know that the sn25p had trouble with the later 8800 series, those with a 256bit bus such as the 8800gt/gts 512mb etc but am unsure about subsiquent cards such as the gtx260. also not sure if they will take the 4850/70 series or 4770.

power could be an issue with the duel 6pin of the 4870 etc too maybe. So has anyone got any personal experiences with this? what cards are you running etc?

Cheers TMS :)

here's the compatibility list shuttle support but they seem fairly low end for a 350w psu. i'm running a 9800GT in my 300w shuttle and that draws 150W under full load.

What I did was check how much watts my shuttle was currently drawing and how much the new card draws to see if I had the leeway to cover it

So what cards do people have running in these atm?

Am looking at getting one and was going to use my old X800gto2 but have decided to up the gfx a little too so the missus can use this on games will be buying second hand so was looking at an 8800GT 512 or so but teh idea of a 4850 in tehre is tempting

if it is a sn25p model you are getting aviod the 8800gt 512mb the refreshed 8800 line with the reduced bus of 256bit dont work in this shuttle model or didnt last i checked which admitadly was a year ago or so. there were a few sparadic reports of some people getting them working but never really saw anything confirmed on that. i know the 8800gts 640 works but it looks like the 4850 could be the best option... hmmm

cheers for the comments guys :) anyone got anything better than a 4850 in a 25p?

I've had the following in an SN25P

8800GTS 640mb
3850 512mb
8800 GT 512mb
8800GTS 512mb

all of them ran without an issues, of the current cards. I'd suggest 4770 if you can find one, failing that a 4850

cpatain-chaos, sounds like you've had a good play about with these.

Will a card with a dual slot cooler fare well in these?
Will it block off other important ports?
Much appreciate the info so far :) Thanks

Im looking at the differences between 4850/4770/4870 the 770 and 870 look damn close.

duel slots are no problem. well some are really tight. my powercolour 3870 was tricky to get in but none standard cooler. think the 8800gtx or ultra or both couldnt be fited or needed to be modded to fit.

btw my sn25p is sitting in a sn27p2 box, with a greater 400w psu i think it is.

I have a 4850 in a SN25P, had constant heat issues with single slot cooler the card was going over 115deg and crashing the machine

Purchased an asaka dual slot cooler from OcUK only to find that it was too thick to fit properly as the part of the chassis that holds the dvd drive/card reader was in the way, Rather than go back to the heat issues i removed that bit of the chassis, you can mount the HDs on the top rails with no issues without it there, ofc i dont have a dvd drive or the card reader installed at the moment

Also i originally had 3 hard drives in the shuttle, given the psu is a 350w and things seem to imply you need more for this card i reduced it to only 1 HD

most i had in my sn25p was 2 74gb rapors in raid0 a 1tb drive for data an [email protected] 2gb of ocz 2-3-2-5 an optical drive and an asus x800xt with a slight overclock.

my psu did however die one day when i installed my powercolour 3870... pfft

i got myself a sn27p2 with a dead mobo cheep for its psu and kept the case while i was at it (lost the front ports, could mod them in but not been arsed as of yet. should bridge the front audio jacks at some point to get the intergrated sound working again. but i think that gives me a 400w psu now (?) oh and a 6pin power lead for gfx cards thank god!

went out on a limb, nabbed a BFG 9600GT OC from MM.
256 bus Version
Low power consumption, single slot and the cooler is nice and quiet
Working fine, tested on a few games, not a hitch :)

well my x800xt looks to have died so im thinking I'll be slipping an upgrade in there soon. i could just move my 3870 to that box i suppose and upgrade my main system.. or something like a cheep 8800gts 640mb hmmm

Just had a bit of trouble getting this hooked upto my 42" TV.
Seems it doesn't like any of my DVI > VGA adapters.

Witht he card having only 2 DVI I was a bit stumped...
Remembered my 4870 came with a DVI > HDMI adapter.

Had some horrendous overscan, HDCP is working fine.
Managed to find a scaler in the Nvidia control panel, now working fine at 1920*1200.
Games running fantastic, more than happy witht he gfx card :)

well i retired my sn25p in the end. had a sn27p2 hanging around which was supposed to be broken, i got it for its psu and case for my 25p but got a 5000+BE to test it out and it works fine! best £50 i have ever spent! lol

so now I'm looking to upgrade the gfx on the 27p2 as im running a simple x550 in there at the moment. :D

so now i need to know what will fit in this.. there are some horid components on the mobo which will interfear with very long gfx cards. but i think a 4850/4870 will fit... hmmm... the saga continues
