Shuttle SN45G V2 woes

OK, I just bought an SN45G V2. After installing windows and SP2, it shut down and now will not POST. I have cleared the CMOS and still nothing. It will turn on, the fan will start on full speed and thats it. I have found that you can also clear the CMOS by starting up and pressing insert, but that doesn't seem to work either.
To top it all, it's about 2 days old from a well known auction site. Think I will be ok for a refund?
 
have you tried completly disconnecting the power then reconnecting in? this sometimes jumpstarted them

but it shouldnt have crapped out on you just from restarting. usually this happens cos you've changed the vdimm voltage, volt modded or the bios has died out (as they were a bit weak)
 
oh dear.
dont want to be the bearer of bad news, but the SN45 is synonymous for this.

This usual means the board is dead, strip out the CPU and memory and leave it unplugged for a few hours, then rebuild it. if you get it to post then reboot and no post its the SN45G usual problem.

I had 2 boards die on me, and its why you can see loads of chasis for sale without boards as ppl buy them new to strip board out
 
if you can find the mobo's seperatly (only 1 place i know of that sells them and their a total rip-off. would be cheaper buying a new shuttle) and also as long as the pci + graphics slot (agp or pci-e) are on the same side as the SN45G.

There also might be a small problem of screw holes lining up but im not sure on that one.

I've used an SN85G4V3 board in an SN45G chassis before but both boards and shuttles are part of the G-Type chassis series so should have fit together fine anyway
 
I've also wondered this. I've got an sn45g which is heavily modded, I love the look of it much more than every other Shuttle. The G series mobos will fit, the only problem I can see is the ICE cooler lining up correctly (depending on where the socket is on the board. Sn45g has an 80mm fan, where as some use a 92mm. If someone can answer that please do, I wouldn't mind spending the rip off price for a naked mobo so that I can keep the look of my rig and upgrade it. Other option is to buy the whole shuttle then sell it bare on ebay, or maybe move the old sn45g mobo into it, then sell it.
 
SN85G4V3 has a 92mm fan that i used. But mine was also heavily modded (and i also love the G-Type than any other shuttle, that much that i modded the SN85G4V3 chassis to look like a black SN45G)


The ICE is in the same place, but as you said doesnt line up. you can't use the shroud unless you drill 4 more holes in the back of the shuttle (not a problem for most though :)). What i did on mine, was take the ICE shround out completly, cable tie a 120mm fan onto the ICE on the inside of the shuttle, and have it blowing towards the front of the shuttle (in effect sucking away from the ICE). I found this dropped my temps a couple of degrees and was v.quiet.

The SN95G5 should also fit fine the same way my SN85G4V3 did
 
Wow, nice work on the gfx card cooler. Am I right in guessing you've replaced the whole front panel as well? Was it as easy as just unscrewing the sn85g4 one off and popping the g series one on? Mine looks like its stuck to the chassis with rivets.
 
yeah, thats something i forgot to add. All G-type chassis will fit the front panels etc. The original one should clip off, and it should reveal the 4 screw holes for the SN45G one. very easy to change :) and probably a better option if you havnt really modded your chassis but still want the new one to look like your old one, the only minor thing is you may have to swap the power button and reset button round as different boards have different ways to connect to the mobo, as an example:

the SN45G one is just a block of 8 pins wasnt it?? the SN85G4 one is like a thin ribbon cable that slots onto the mobo. This shouldnt be too much problem cos all the power button boards are the same size with the same mounting holes meanin their very interchangable (well i think all of them are, at least most of them are)
 
speedfreak: have you had any luck fixing your shuttle? My warranty replacement sn45v2 done the exact same thing... Was working fine last night, but today it won't boot or post. I've tried clearing the cmos, but i think the BIOS could have had it. i've got another nforce 2 motherboard somewhere, so if I find it, I'll try the last resort - hotflashing the BIOS. :eek:
