Shuttle SP5P2 Pro Problems

Hi,

I've just bought a new system that I'm having issues with, and before I return the SP35P2 I want to make sure the right part is at fault.

When the issues started the system would turn on but not boot (blank screen), taking out one of the RAM sticks helped so I assumed at first that it was a bad RAM stick. I reset the CMOS and the system booted fine with both RAM sticks in.

I set windows installing and came back after about 2 hours, selected the locale and keyboard and clicked next, it looked like the setup was continuing and then the system shut off. And I could not turn it back on.

If I leave it off for a while and unplug he power, then plug the power back in the system spins up for a second or two and then shuts off. The system will then not switch back on. Power is still going to the motherboard as when I press the Speed Link button the light next to it lights up.

My assumption is the the Shuttle is the problem, but I wanted to see what others thought before I send the wrong part back. It could be another part or maybe I just have too much for the Shuttle to handle.

I'm also slightly concerned that the shuttle might have been a return, the protective sheet on the front looks like it has been off before and also it has only a quick install guide and no manual with it (or is that normal). Also when installing the CPU (I've never installed a core 2 before so this could be normal) the protector cover does not sit fully flat, I have to push down quite hard with the clip.

The parts of my system are:
1x Shuttle SP35P2 Pro
1x Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Energy Efficient 95W edition Socket 775 (2.40GHz) G0 Stepping L2 8MB Cache OEM Processor
1x Corsair 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5(5-5-5-18)
1x Seagate Barracuda 250Gb SATA Drive
1x HP DVD640i SATA
1x BFG Tech 8800 GTS OC 320Mb

Can anyone give me any advice?

Thanks,

Gushy.

Same bother as I had with mine, its a BIOS software problem, nothing you can do but RMA it back to where you bought it.

DOnt worry about it being second hand, the plastic sheeting on mine was very loose when I got mine, and the CPU cover is a sod to press down, it had me worried about maybe breaking the chip, but it was like that on both my machines, and I know my first one wasnt second hand as I was one of the first in the country to get one :)

I was concerned that might be the case, I notice a few posts on other sites where people have had to reset the cmos on nearly every boot.

I've had SFF machines before but this is my first shuttle ... not a good start.

So you replaced yours and the second one is ok? I want to have a SFF machine, but I have to admit I'm thinking of just sending back the shuttle and getting a normal case / mobo.

Second ones been rock steady since I got it last November. One thing I did do is insist that the retailer tested the replacement that was sent out to me, might be worth doing the same.

Also, the retailer I bought it from knew it was a BIOS error, so Id insist also that they check that you have an up to date BIOS on the Shuttle, as its the original Shuttles BIOS that caused problems.

Wasn't the quickest process but I managed to return the shuttle to ****** for a full refund.

I went with a full sized system in the end

I should edit out that competitor quickly, you're not allowed to mention them on here.

Shame to hear you had to return it, I've heard of a few people having problems with Shuttle BIOS's. They need to get their act together before they put too many people off mini-rigs!

PK!
