Shuttle SX48P2 query

Hi,

I'm thinking about upgrading my AMD 3400+ Shuttle 85G42 to a more up-to-date small form factor PC. Because I'm used to dealing with Shuttle PCs I was thinking about getting an SX48P2 and throwing in either a E8400 or a Q9550 (I like to game but I also like to multi-task). Not sure about the graphics card - I guess it depends on what will fit in there, but I'd prefer something that could run Fallout 3 at 1920x1200 with relative ease.

Thing is though; are Shuttle PCs still noisy little hot-boxes? If they are, can anyone recommend a quiet, easy-to-build small form PC that isn't a Shuttle?

I'm looking to spend no more than £750 on the system (excluding OS and monitor).

Speaking of the Shuttle XPC SX48P2, can anyone confirm what the difference between the 'E' and 'Deluxe' versions is, aside from the price? To my tired old eyes they both seem to be the same...but I'm probably missing some obvious difference!

Cheers

Will have a nose at the specs later mate (Quake Live is calling me...), rumour has it an i7 version is coming soon.

They are not too noisy, maybe at full whack in 3D the powersupply spins up a bit but mine only has the 400W supply. Heatwise they are OK, I've never had a problem, I have 3 Shuttles now and they all seem OK with the heat, although I have watercooled one of them, but that was just to use 2 GFX cards.

WoZZeR - thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Good to hear that they aren't too noisy.

Any idea on the biggest graphics card that will fit inside a SX48P2? I noticed in another thread that a 4850 was recommended. Any chance that a GTX 260 could be squeezed inside one?

I've heard about the i7 Shuttles - X58? - but I thought that they might be priced too high for my needs. If not, I'd be willing to give them a go.

Oh, and may you go forth and gib many enemies in Quake Live!
