Hi all,

Have got a Shuttle SX58H7 machine for my dad, and it's great - other than the fact that the PSU fan is incredibly noisy!

I thought I'd resolve that by picking up a replacement fan, and purchased from OcUK a Fractal Design 50mm fan (as well as a matching 92mm for the ICE), thinking that I'd plug it into the motherboard, and have it automatically adjusting speed based on system temperature.

However... it doesn't appear to do so! The 92mm fan is running quite happily at ~1300rpm, but the 50mm fan is running at 3800rpm, and is just as noisy as the one I've just taken out!

Is there anything I can do with this? I can't even seem to control the speed of the CPU fan or FAN2 speeds. Is this because it's not a PWM fan? Will it not control the voltage?

Any ideas welcomed - I'm at the point where I've just spent £15 on fans and it's actually no better than it was before I started pulling it apart this evening!

It was most definitely the PSU fan that was making the most racket - so that was the one I wanted to replace, and decided whilst I was at it I'd also buy a new 92mm fan to go with it, even though the smart fan was doing quite a good job.

Fractal Design's "Silent Series" is anything but when it comes to a 50mm fan - so I've got a Zalman Fanmate fan controller on it's way, and I'll just plug that inline with the PSU fan, and get it to a level where it's quiet enough and is keeping the PSU cool enough.

I remember now why I got rid of my previous Shuttle (SN85G4v2) - just too darn noisy! But, I got such a good deal on this one with an i7-920 it was too good to pass up, and other than the noise, is perfect for my dad!
