Ive got a shuttle XPC SBC81P with Pentium 4 HT 3GHZ,2GB DDR 400,Maxtor 160GB SATA,ASUS 512mb PCI Express graphics card. Its overclocked as much as
can do but think the old P4 is holding it back, its socket 775 so would core 2 dua
work ok in it with 533/800MHz front-side bus. Also it supports Raid so would using 2 SATA drives in RAID 0 speed it up any,if so do both drives have to be the same size as its got a 160GB SATA in it and ive got a spare 100GB SATA
drive or will i need another 160GB.It supports 4GB ram but hard finding any old
DDR400 2 x 2GB.Any ides to speed it up a bit,cheers Newbie.

unfortnatly the chipset doesnt support Core 2 Duo CPUs so you would have to change your shuttle to a newer one with atleast an Intel 965 chipset iirc.

Raid will speed it up but it all depends what your using it for and yes both drives have to be the same size, works best when they are the same make model etc.

Shuttle's site says it supports

Processor support
Socket 775 supports Intel Pentium 4 (with 1 or 2 MB Cache) and Celeron D processors
supports Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.4 GHz
at 800 or 533 FSB
supports Hyper-Threading

The bios updates doesn't seem to help :(

raid can be used with odd sized drives you just loose all space greater than your smaler drive. if its software raid hen you can raid individual partitions but software raid is cpu intensive compard to hardware or chipset raid. (some people will mistakingly quote chipset raid as softwre raid btw)

personally i retired my shuttle to a backup system
