Bought one of these a week ago on the bay but the dvd player would only read cd's.
Fine I thought, and replaced it, trouble is the new one does the same.

Anyone got any ideas as to what it could be?
 
What type of DVD's have you tried reading? e,g, proper pressed data DVD's of games or magazine cover disks, or self written DVD's.

Tried both optical drives in another computer to see if same issue? And is it a S-ATA or ribbon cable drive?
 
Did this unit have windows installed on it when you got it and if it did are you still using that instolation?

Also are you using the correct DVD format for the DVD player + or - for instance if it doesnt support both infact there are more disk veriants than I have fingers... Im guessing the replacement drive you got was new though so I would actually be suprised if it was that.

I asume you have tried more than 1 DVD disk in the PC naturally.
