Thinking of going to Sicily early summer this year. I don’t know why exactly.. I’ve always wanted to go. Italy is probably my favourite European country to visit, I like the idea of sunshine, good food and some history to entertain ourselves with during the day. We’re not the type to sit on the beach for 7 days.

But, I haven’t done much research :p In my head I’d love to stay in a town for a few days, then go and stay in the countryside to properly chill. Or at least a quieter town maybe. We live in London so it’s nice to get out of suburbia.

Any ideas :) Good food is probably very high up on the list, not touristy tat.

Bump. So funnily enough having talked about this all year and not being organised... our hand is forced as a friend is over from Australia and spending time in Sicily and Malta in September. So we're going to go over and meet her.

We'll definitely have to play into Palermo as we'll be departing from LHR. Then we have two choices to coincide with their trip - either go with them to Tonnara di Scopello, or Cefalu. I'm getting serious touristy vibes the more I read about Cefalu which is putting me off, but it's a heck of a lot easier as you can get a train to/from Palermo.

So, coupling with a couple of days/nights in Palermo, which would you pick? :) Sounds like in Sep it won't really be beach weather, we're more about the good/authentic food and seeing the historical sites and generally chilling out.
