Guys how can I make 64bit Internet Explorer go away for ever? I don't mind it but it seems nothing works on it, so every single site I visit gives me a prompt to download flash or whatever which of course wont work because flash wont support 64bit IE.

So I use the 32bit version, and its fine, but even after changing all my shortcuts to the 32bit version I almost invariably end up with the damn 64bit version running AGAIN.

How can I make it go away without installing Firefox?

Have you tried changing it in "Change default programs Windows uses" in the Control Panel?

Eh?

The 32-bit version is the default, you should only get the 64-bit one if you explicitly ask for it. Using Vista x64 both at home and work and I've never had any issues with this - it always defaults to the 32-bit version.

Have you been through the whole "set program access and defaults" bit in Control Panel?

I don't think there's a way to just "remove" it - IE has certain files which are critical to the system and even if you just deleted the executable I bet Windows would whine your house down about it. :p

Whats wrong with FF?

I love the face that IE7 x64 seems to be really fast, but you're right nothing works in it. I do not believe there is a way to get rid of it. Do the above with program defaults. If that doesn't work, what are you clicking on the bring up IE in the first place?

Check your app paths in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\iexplore.exe

Default to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

Path to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer;

Backup registry beforehand though in case it goes really wrong!

Firefox is the way to go.

I would have thought you'd be using it anyway though....
