Sick of Android

This guy moans about Android in every thread he chooses to visit on this forum:

We're waiting for Apple to come up with the next big thing.
Repeat ad nauseum etc...

Phones are a product of their time considering the technology progression we have managed as a race. Symbians combined cutting edge ARM CPUs with amazing battery life and decent usability for a number of years, I think it's unlikely we will ever see a platform as dominant as Symbian was at it's peak.

it's a thread to ask whether anyone else is concerned with the stifling of the mobile market by Android, and potentially what can be done to prevent further harm being done.

One of the most ridiculous things I've read on this forum...

OP, replace Android with iOS and you're talking some sense. Otherwise, this is bs.

Agreed. Wind back 4 years where iOS was dominant and I was a bit worried. An OS that didn't push innovation. An OS that actually went out to stop devs doing innovative things (granted, they often then implemented the innovation themselves 6 months later).

Android where so much can be done, hacked, changed... I think we're safe OP, don't worry.

Most of the posts from Number29 in this forum have been complaints about Android so I don't know why he doesn't just get another iPhone he so obviously wants.

If he wants to talk about stifling competition why not talk about that idiot Steve Jobs who wanted to wipe Android off the map.

Someone find one of those pictures showing how much Android has changed over the last few years and how much iOS hasn't changed...

Without Android, Apple would completely have the mobile phone market tied up. You need competition to compel business' to innovate and improve their products, otherwise they run the risk of becoming irrelevant which impacts market share and stock value.

There's a reason why Samsung completely dominate the Android market: advertisement/marketing. Yet even with their marketing prowess, there's no way Samsung would be in their current position if they had kept with BadaOS.

if you look very carefully, you can see the ios background has been changed!

innovation right there

Heh

Apple are mega angry because they cannot innovate. Let me explain. Android came out with the widgets system for homescreens. So much information available to you in seconds from unlocking the phone, completely customizable so that each person can see what they want in an instant. It was a natural evolution of the interface and **** blocked Apple from doing the same, so they've been stuck with the grid of icons for years now making it look really old and tired. They're even sneaking in there own version of the task-bar copied straight from Android!

The designers have essentially admitted defeat as they've been painted into a corner with the UI. They'll have to ditch the UI system completely and come up with something completely different and exotic

How does OP explain the fact that all phones are hugely different and innovative in different ways even though they all use the same OS?

e.g. Sony now do waterproof phones, etc. HTC have front facing dual speakers, etc. Samsung have 6"+ AMOLED screens, etc? LG have a flexible phone which repairs itself, etc?

Because they all use the same OS and same internals they need to be more innovative than ever to differentiate themselves from their competitors.

If anything they are leading innovation and Apple are playing catch up.

Which again shows you how ridiculous apple are when it comes to price, you can buy a phone which is years ahead in technology and far more innovative for far cheaper.

If anything people should be getting sick of Apple noth Android.

So sickening to have an OS which evolves and you can customised to your heart’s content. God how I love to be sick.

Still can't stop it loading the wrong lock screen or having to reload the launcher i've used to get rid of the unwanted 'blinkfeed' bloat. :p

Are you on a HTC one?

The latest version of Android (4.4 certainly, I think it may have been introduced in 4.3 though) allows you to turn it off from the widgets screen. No hacks necessary.

It's a thread to ask whether anyone else is concerned with the stifling of the mobile market by Android, and potentially what can be done to prevent further harm being done.

Android is currently two things.

The first is a open source mobile OS called ASOP by the Open Handset Alliance, which is led by Google. This is good! Any company can use it for free and give us new and innovative or cheaper devices. Brilliant! but...
The second is a propitiatory front end name for Google services, this is no different from Windows Phone and iOS.

Unfortunately nearly all 'Android' phones/tablets on sale today are not really Android phones/tablets, they're Google propitiatory service phones/tablets that happen to use Android.

If you want to be concerned about anything then be concerned about how Google are moving everything out of ASOP into Google propitiatory services. Keyboard, calendar, messaging, browser, launcher, location APIs etc all gone.
ASOP could be dead within a few years, that's why the other big companies are looking for alternatives.
