***Sid Meier's Civilization VII***

What are the other decisions at Firaxis that you have an issue with?

The £140 (edit) collector's edition that didn't even include a (digital) copy of the game was a bit of a worry. And im going to have to what to see some 'let's plays' or similar before I can make my mind up as to whether the whole new way of approaching era's makes it a 'yay' or 'nay' for me.

I have never bought a collectors edition of something in 40 plus years of gaming and tbh I never will, cant see the point of them. Perhaps to a collector they are of interest, or to a streamer who wants to have statues on display behind them on the camera but to me, not interested. I'm interested only in the games not the toys that go with them

I was curious and somewhat hesitant about the era changes etc but having watched some dev streams I'm actually pretty excited for them now and to see how it affects our massive map, marathon length multiplayer games (which can stretch on for several months) , definitely not anything in them which would stop me buying the next title in a series that I've enjoyed for over 3 decades

I'm fully prepared for the prospect that my hesitation might be misplaced and ill still pick this up a few weeks after launch rather than pre ordered or on or very close to launch day like for 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Just going to wait to see some of the finished product this time around.

Hope it turns out well for you, I'll be on it on Day one and am sure I'll post my initial thoughts :)

I must admit I'm still concerned about this design choice ... as discussed much earlier in this thread, Amplitude tried a similar approach with Humankind and failed miserably. Also, the present day Firaxis is not the Firaxis of old .... many of the previous game leads have retired or moved on. And they're still trying to recover from the commercial flop that was Marvel's Midnight Suns. Hence why they're charging an arm and a leg for various editions of Civ 7. This could be a make or break game for the studio. At the moment I'm of a mind to sit and watch how this plays out from the sidelines ...

I'm really in two minds about this. What I keep hearing doesn't appeal in any way. However what I heard about Civ VI didn't appeal either and I have put in over 1000 hours into that.

I won't be preordering though

One of the peeps that I regularly game with was much the same before Civ 6 came out, said he didnt like the looks of it, wasnt going to play it etc (even though he has 100s of hours in civ 4 and civ 5 in our multiplayer sessions) but when it came out he picked it up, joined us in our multiplayer games and ended up over 900 hours in it.

Which just goes to show that once you're in the game, playing a huge multiplayer match with your friends, that just one more turn bug bites no matter what changes have occurred. Absolutely love the Civ games for huge multimonth multiplayer matches. Reminds us all of the huge boardgames that we used to play decades ago, stuff like Squad Leader, Advanced Third Reich and Axis and Allies. Civ is the master at it :)

I put a preorder in for the founders edition. It was £75.99. Looking forward to playing this one.
It bugs me that even when paying for the Foundation edition, we'll be missing the "modern" post cold war era at launch. In other words, it'll take another paid DLC ( ? how much ) to get the full game. This edition of Civ is looking like pure greed from the publisher ( 2K ).

Collector's editions are synonymous with tat.
There are a few rare exceptions. I thought the Fallout 3 metal lunchbox and Vault-Boy bobble-head figurine was pretty good, one of the rare worth while Collectors editions. The Collectors editions with season pass's or DLC's are sometimes worth while. The Civ Founders edition comes with the first 6 DLC's included. If the DLC's are £10 or more each then the Founders edition might be worthwhile over buying the base game + DLC's. Although in this case the Founders Edition makes more sense then the full collectors editions which doesn't look worth while.

Yeah tbh, its probably the founders edition that I will buy (can be picked up for £75) because of the amount of stuff in it and the 5 day headstart, plus the first 6 DLCs being free

Founders Edition includes:
• Full base game
• Advanced Access - play the game up to 5 days early on February 6, 2025
• Tecumseh and Shawnee Pack
• Crossroads of the World Collection, with post-launch content featuring 2 new leaders, 4 new civilizations, 4 new wonders, a special cosmetic bonus, and more
• Right to Rule Collection, with post-launch content featuring 2 new leaders, 4 new civilizations, 4 new wonders, a special cosmetic bonus, and more!*
• Deluxe Content Pack, which includes:

  • 2 leader personas
  • 4 profile customizations
  • 1 alternate scout skin
    • Founders Content Pack, which includes:
  • 2 leader personas
  • 4 profile customizations
  • 1 fog of war tile set
  • 1 Founders palace skin

The 6 DLC will cost around £40 total (RRP - give or take £5), so it's probably worth it for the FE if you plan on getting the DLC anyway. Other option is getting the deluxe for £55~ and just picking up the DLCs on discount later on. Both are good options :) I went for the FE for £75 as I'd just end up getting the DLC anyway.

I'll certainly give the game a try at some point but I'm not pre-ordering it at current prices espiecally given it sounds like there will be more DLC content in the near future after it's launch!

I really dislike this thing of pre-paid DLC. Six things you don't know what are? Doesn't sit right with me.

It bugs me that even when paying for the Foundation edition, we'll be missing the "modern" post cold war era at launch.

Sorry, what?

Where are you getting this from? All the marketing I can see seems to talk about the Modern Age as part of the base game?
