Right, getting the following issue whenever I try and load lots of programs (iTunes, Spotify, Word, VS2008 etc etc):

'The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect.'

Had a quick look around the internet and they said to look at event viewer. Every time I try to load a program I have this message in event viewer:

Activation context generation failed for "System Default Context". Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.c..-controls.resources_6595b64144ccf1df_5.82.7600.16385_en-us020378a8991bbcc2.manifest" on line 0. Invalid Xml Syntax"

Now, I have one of those Patriot PS-100 SSD's (kept it in the end after firmware update FINALLY) seemed to fix it. Could that be dying? Is it a Windows Update (I had just installed an optional one for windows 7 x64, something about being compatible with some sort of drive about 32gb (can't quite remember all of it) Any ideas on how to solve this issue without a whole reformat??

side by side error is usually down to using the incorrect dll versions.

this can happen when when problems are compiled linking to different version of dlls.

the fix is usually to install the correct redist for the program your running.

ie, if the program is compiled in VS2005, u get that error when trying to run it in vista or 7, to fix it you need to install the VS2005 redist

I get this on a fresh install, it doesn't stop anything working so it's nothing to bother about.

Couldn't even run that program, same error!! Think I'm going to just have to format tomorrow, but no idea what caused it, so hope it doesn't happen again!

Triple post go me!

Can't even copy my files back onto USB HDD. It starts copying then gives up. Having to take it into Uni tomorrow to borrow a decent Sata to USB converter thing they have to back it up. So really wierd error!!!
