Siemens A60 - locked?

I have a Siemens A60 I'd like to sell, but I don't know if it's locked or not. The SIM card that was in it was Virgin and was rejected - I imagine the number is now dead.

Can I find out if it's locked without buying another SIM card? I suspect ringing Virgin Media might lead to a long, long wait on the phone...

Do you have any family or friends on different networks? Could borrow their SIMs and see if it works. Even then you can pick up PAYG SIMs pretty cheap from various stores. This is probably the easiest way to do it to see if it's locked.

Ah a penny drops. Can't do the F&F thing, but I think I have an adapter so I could try my own SIM in it. Otherwise I'll get a cheap one without a contract from GiffGaff.

Found the adapter, put my GiffGaff card in the Siemens and it picked it up & displayed 'GiffGaff' so home & dry - it's not locked.
