Hey all.

I finally got rrod on my original 360 just before xmas. Left it until now for obvious reasons. Was all prepared to mention the fact I looked after my console and mention the sales of goods act, (inherently faulty products basically have 6yrs repair or replacement, not 3 micro$oft)

Rung up today and, well, im not an arguementative person lol.

98 quid? No thanks.

****ing cheek really considering its just poor, cheap design.

Not like this is my 2nd fault or anything either.

Anyone actually have to pay for out of warranty repair,or does everyone argue to get it free lol?

Hate phones :(

Ps. Wth is up with the jazzy music and 4 different automated accents

I've had it twice at 18 months & ended up with a Brand new 150w Jasper as an exchange. I think I've had a 360 for a few years now & i still have one that's just a few months old & the latest revision, The whole RROD has worked out brillaintly for me.

If I was face to face I prob would be fine, its just phonecalls urgh.

Wonder if I could travel to the callcentre? Lol

North :p

Yea I thought that but if there was a chance for a free fix, I should do it.

Theres this 2nd hand game store near who also repair in case I messed it up lol

Just a cheek. Basically illegal imo considering the 6yr goods act.

I blame ssfIV

Watch the youtube videos on reflow and the x-clamp and do it yourself. The former I didnt bother with just the clamp fix and its still going strong 6 months later.

I have heard of people repairing their console and then trading it in whilst working to at least lessen the cost of a replacement console.

In my early ownership i wouldnt have been as bothered, but being a fighting fan and with sf, blazblue, battle fantasia and upcoming mvsc Im gutted. :(

Been looking up the clamp fix. Seems ok apart from re-sizing the screw holes. Dont have a drill. Not sure if I'd need to drill though really?

Also browsed older rrod threads on here and lots of people saying about putting the mobo in the oven,is that really necessary? As im not too keen on that idea lol.

Really? Wouldnt the shop see the case has been opened? Or would they not even care?

Ps.Feel like an annoying pest so I apologize for yet another rrod thread :p

This is what I would do..

1. Just try the cheapest X-Clamp method first..

2. If it works, then sell on (described accordingly) for £40-£50, if not, don't bother, chuck it on ebay as spares/repair

3. Put any money from 2. towards a secondhand 60/120Gb model that was manufactured in late 2009/early 2010 for under £100 and get hopefully a good few more years on what should be at least revised hardware with 1-2years RROD warranty from MS.

I don't think the SOGA actually states 6 years does it? I thought it was all down to what could be reasonably expected lifespan of a product, no doubt 3 years was the magic figure, if MS thought they could get away with less, I'm sure they would, and I'm not aware of any claims that have been succesful.. I mean if every manufacturer was compelled to replace/repair products for 6 years, things would be much more expensive..

Well Im in no way legally minded lol and Im not sure if it was for the uk, but read you can at least claim partial refund if repair/replacement was too costly. Also I thinks its if the product has failed because of the manufacturer and its an obvious problem. Not like only 10% of the original consoles just happened to die. Its the way it was made.
Any other company would have recalled and re-evaluated the system, using the older parts. Well, in an ideal world lol.

I wouldnt care if it was a rare occurance on the system.

depending where in the north I could always fix it for.

However, I like to up the fan speed to 12v in order to help keep it cool and stop future rrods.

It's only 6 years to make a claim, doesnt mean you get a auto 6 year warranty. I would imagine the 'time it should reasonably last' worked out to 3 years hence the MS warranty.

Also remember its the store you bought it from that you deal with not MS for any claim under the SOGa.
