Sigma 135mm F1.8

Could be really sweet. I really hope that Sigma can release a good 24mm f/1.4 and then start on some PC lenses

That will be a great lens. On the heavy and expensive side though.

I'm currently holding off buying a 50mm F1.4 as the rumours are circulating of an update soon.

Hopefully it's closer to 135L pricing than Zeiss 135 f/1.8.

I don't honestly have /that/ much use for a 135, truth be told, but still it's an exciting development. Still no rumours of an update to the 85 though

Sigma technically have an advantage over the first parties. Much of the costs of a lens is R&D. Sigma can split this cost over 4 or more lens mounts. So Sigma should be able to plough ahead with new releases as well as push what's possible like it's already doing/done with the 18-35 F1.8.

Haha seriously doubt that, it was never profitable and nobody wanted to go into a Sigma mount camera as it just needlessly limited you.. That said with a range as strong as their's is looking to become, there's no reason why they wouldn't I guess.

A strong lens platform then bringing out a new mount into an already mature lens system is probably a very smart move compared to bringing out a brand new system with no lenses yet and just hoping you stick around long enough to bring out an actual system.

In many ways it's almost a shame that they brought out their top lenses just before this switch over. The 85, 105 OS and 150 OS are all great lenses, the 150 in particular, but obviously they all just came out and so are probably a little way away from being updated.

Blimey Sigma seem to be banging them out at the moment, it makes me wonder if they're going to have another crack at the DSLR market.

errm, they already do - the Sigma SD1 is their latest and greatest.

If they really want to succeed in the DSLR game they need to drop their sigma mount and do what Fuji did and make a Nikon (or canon) mount DSLR using their own sensor

I think Sigma would do better if they offered their cams in Nikon/Canon & maybe Sony mounts. Considering they already offer lenses in all the mounts, it shouldn't be to difficult to fit slightly different mounts to basically the same camera.

Then they should release a 35mm Foveon sensor. That would likely clean up the landscape market. Maybe even studio.

I doubt they'll get the go ahead from Nikon to do that given how much Sigma seem to be gunning for them at the moment, and how strong their sensor tech is. Canon on the other hand might have a little more to gain from a partnership.

Can't wait to see a new 50 and 85mm from them!

Get the holy trinity of sigmas.

Come on Canon, sort your 20 year old 50mm out!

I suspect Canon are perfectly happy with the sales of their 20 year old 50mm and I also suspect were they to release an update a lot of people would be very disapointed with the price, allthough given the recent adition of IS to some of the other old prime's they have updated Canon could be the first company to offer a stabalised 50mm prime which would be interesting.

The same out of date crit could easily be levelled at Sigma there 24-70mm f2.8 zoom might not be 20 years old but it is terrible compared to the best of the competition and even Tamrons latest offering thrashes it.

That's why camera stabilisation would be ideal.
The camera could automatically turn stabilisation on or off depending on the lens you mount being a stabilised lens or not.

That would kill off lenses like the 35mm f2 IS though

It would have to be a hell of a lens for me to change from the 135L, the F0.2 aperture difference aside, it need to be very sharp, very accurate, very fast focus with better bokeh.

And it needs to be around £750 or less.

The 50L is already massive, there's no room whatsoever for an IS system while keeping the 1.2 aperture.

I was thinking of the f1.4 50mm, sigma haven't really introduced anything as a direct competitor to the 50L.

Sigma have picked a tough lens to beat, the canon 135mm really is excellent. I guess they've gone for the faster aperture for headline differentiation and will then try and match/slightly exceed the performance for a simlar/slightly lower asking price.
