Hi all, well i would like to know what you all think about the Sigma APO 300-800mm 300-800 F/5.6 f5.6 EX DG. It emidatly caught my eye because of the price, RRPs at about 3k! Seems a bargain to me.

Its ment to be excellent, i was looking for one to hire for my D200 but sadly not exactly a common lens!!

There are a couple of wildlife/bird shooters who use it and love it, its by all accounts ment to be an excellent lens.

Well if you have the money mate, go for it! its not small though :S

Personally id go Sigma 50-500 and slap a 1.4X converter on it, saves a lot of cash, although you will sacrifice aperture flexibility (min f.stop will increase numerically)

Here is a size comparison.

Also to the OP what fit are you getting Canon or Nikon?

It's certainly big isn't it? I would guess 4 - 4.5ft?

Dont be daft, its about 2.5ft tops.

I had a 500mm prime and that was a beast, the worst bit is carrying ti about, kills the arms, neck, shoulders, back etc..

Yeah I can often make figures up lol. Just measured out 2 foot or so on my desk with my D50 and it would look about right.
