Sigma or Tamron

I think what you might need to do is set the camera to Tv mode and then set it to 1/80 (or faster) and then let the camera sort out the aperture and ISO for you to start with and that should sort out your blur problem. Might be a bit noisy but better to have a shot that is slightly noisy than not to have the shot at all (you can PP some of the noise out, but you cant PP blur out)

I found this when I was working in low-light settings and it made it for me.

It was of buildings and landscapes mostly and I do have a 50mm f1.8 but had to stop using this because it would not focus as I wanted it to do so.

when you say it didnt focus how you wanted, was there nothing sharp when focussed or not enough in focus?

as for the VC, dont bother. I have had lenses ranging from 10-280mm that have been used without and help. Technique is the first thing to learn, even down to your breathing in some respects.

is there any chance of posting a pic or two and explaining what you feel is wrong. If we have the EXIF data we can rule out or confirm the settings as the issue.

You know, I've never noticed that before so I thought I'd take a few shots in very low light in my room. My god, does it hunt!? How I've not come across this in the 3-4 years I've owned it I'll never know.
