I wanted to go straight ahead (second exit). Figured that first exit wasn't really a proper exit (just a parking space pretty much). So I discounted it and stuck my left signal on to indicate I was turning off at first proper exit. Was in the correct lane too.

Got a major! Apparently I shouldn't have signalled left until passing that first exit unless I was going to turn into it. No other motorist did that! Feel scammed out of £60 again.

I think it's still an exit, and it's possible that a driver might want to go in there (however unlikely). I would indicate after passing it.

Annoying to fail your test on this though!

Technically you got a major because it IS possible to turn into that lane. You might have been wanting to go sit there and eat your packed lunch for all any other motorist knew.

You should have indicated after the exit ( and yes i know its not a real exit but it has enough to be classed as one as far as rules of a roundabout go. )

An exit is an exit, how did the person behind you know that you didn't intend to pull into that space for whatever reason?

The tester is correct in his explanation, but I'm of the opinion that a major fault is a little harsh in these exact circumstances.

Cheers guys. Grr. 4th time failing. Such an annoying thing to fail for. Def should have been a minor in my books.

Everything else was smooth though, even did an emergency stop. 5 minors. Should be ok next time.

5 minors and a major and you call that "smooth"? :p

In my books, 5 minors without the major would have been smooth enough for me considering you are allowed up to 14. But the major clearly wasn't smooth.

Jokester, yeah the straight ahead exit was the one I was taking (where the other traffic is going).

I think failing for that is harsh. Sure you were wrong but how they classified it as a major I don't know.

I agree. I can't see that indicating left is going to affect the actions of other motorists, i.e. if that little layby was instead a proper two-lane road and someone waiting to pull out saw your indication and pulled out without knowing you intended to go straight on.

Agreed. It's petty, but you do not signal until the next turn off is the one you're turning into. Then there's the people who signal as they do the manoeuvre. Makes me wish it said MAN on the wheel instead of Mini. :p

It's not a layby, when they've built that roundabout they've made an allowance for a new exit being built at some point in the future. Presumably that field is earmarked for a housing estate or something.

People like that really annoy me, "Oh I'm already half way into ploughing you off the road but wait it's ok I've just flicked my indicator on!"

****ing *****!
