Evenin' all, have recently moved into my first home and we are looking to treat ourselves with a nice 19in flat screen TV for our bedroom..... however we have no aerial connection in there...... have mentioned this to a few people and they say I don’t need to get a connection put in there I just need to purchase something called a 'Signal Booster' which will do the job fine, had a quick look on Argos and have found a couple of products but they don’t say that there is no need for an analogue connection and that they (as the name implies) simply boost your signal.

Can anyone give me any advice on this or do I simply need to get someone to fit me a new connection point?

Thanks in advance

A signal booster just adds power to a normal tv - top aerial.

So if you have no roof aerial link, you can get a tv top aerial, and boost the signal via the mains. It does work, but not like a roof aerial will.

I've got powered aerial from argos, it was the cheapest one (8.99 i think) and it has a signal booster in it, very good for a tv aerial.

So you think the best way to go is to get a connection box put on the wall? anyone know roughly what this should cost?

Cheers

You want a distrubution amplifier, though if your signal is strong enough then a plain splitter would probably be ok for just two TVs

You pop the distrubution amp in the loft and plug it in (you'll most likely need to install a S/O or FCU unless you have one already) the aerial goes into the dist. amp, and each tv point is fed off an output of it

Tesla's really the one to speak to about this kind of thing though, you could even post your location and depending on where you are he might be able to give you a quote (My commision is 10% btw, tesla :p )

If you have a bad picture from your aerial then a booster will amplify the bad signal and it can become worse.
Last year I had two new digital ready aerials put on the roof and a cable goes down the front into a booster from Argos and feeds 3 TV's and another cable goes down the back of the house into a booster and feeds another 3 TV's.
Remember - bad signal in, bad signal out.
