this problem has only happened while playing darksiders 2, so far it has happened 3 times. what happened was so far into my game time the game would freeze for a split second then my signal would be lost with no picture on the screen but I could still hear sound from the game.

I tried to reset my pc but didn't get a signal back, I ended up having to hold the power button then turn it back on when it shut off. after the 2nd time it happened I deleted my install of the game then re-installed it and verified the game cache.

the game started fine and I had a little play time then the signal cut again and I had no picture but still there was some sound.

I did a couple of searches on google and found some things related to the same problem about over heating and not enough power going to the system but my rig is cpu and gpu water cooled. my psu is 750w so I know there is enough power to keep it running.

does anyone know what is or might be causing this and how I could possibly fix it? thanks(Y)

You may have a 750w PSU, but that doesn't mean it is delivering all its power. Power supplies can fail gradually.

If its hardware related, I'd have thought GPU first, though. Check the temps when in-game to rule overheating out.

Before any of that, have you tried other games? You sure it isn't just a Darksiders 2 issue?

thinking about it, it may be the game. this hasnt happened before and i havent played Darksiders 2 for a while. im gonna try another game and see if it happens with that. my psu isnt too old so im not thinking it is a hardware problem yet, but it isnt ruled out.

Unlikely to be the game, it will either be hardware or a dodgy GPU driver. Different games put different stresses on a machine, so being fine in fallout 4 doesn't mean there isn't a problem. I'd guess that it's either your GPU or the PSU given that FO4 (which is CPU heavy rather than GPU heavy) works fine.

You say the GPU is watercooled, I wonder if the VRMs or VRAM is not getting cooled properly. Factory fit cooler?

it was a custom built loop , made by OCUK because my rig is still under warrenty. after turning off FO4 the temp on the gpu was 37.6C and cpu was slightly higher.

now that i think about it, it could be the driver. i think the last one i installed was the latest beta. im going to try the official driver later.
