WTF is with with people on motorways. Four times today I've had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting some putz who decided that mirror, signal, mirror, manoeuvre wasn't for them. Cretins, where is a drone strike when you need one.

And breath out.:mad::mad::mad:

Annoying isn't the word. Even worse when you are trying to change lanes and no one lets you out, like it makes a difference to their journey time to ease off the throttle for 2 seconds

Thought you would be wise to this? Usually fairly easy to spot the kind of drivers which are about to do this. If you weren't going an inappropriate speed over the lane to the left then you wouldn't have to slam on even if they did pull out on you.

I find this too. Seems people think that just because they indicate, it means they can pull out straightaway. Grinds my gears!

I used to have that problem when I'd do 100mph in the outside lane everywhere. Ever since I started doing 70mph it has become a complete non issue.

Another thing that gets me, if you wanna pull out and there's a car approaching, indicate anyway while you wait! So many people seem to think it's only something you do *as* you're maneuvering. If the driver sees your intentions he may well move so you can pull out, meaning you don't have to suddenly slam on the brakes behind that lorry. I often let drivers out before they've even started indicating, they're either baffled at first at my seemingly psychic abilities or very thankful.

So you'd suggest slowing to ~55 every time you overtake a lorry, just in case they pull out on you?

I travel up and down the A1 most days, I find the standard of driving there is usually atrocious with people's lack of using their mirrors. A few weeks ago I was nearly put into a barrier because some idiot in a people carrier just pulled out while I was right beside him.

Works especially well on 3+ lane motorways I find.

No! why would you indicate when its not clear, the driver overtaking is no mind reader and might read the signal as a indication of you pulling out (as is the case 90% of the time when people indicate) causing them to brake for no good reason.

Had someone do this when I was doing 140mph on a two-lane stretch of autobahn last month. I had to swerve into the inside lane as he pulled into mine to avoid contact.

He was completely ****ing oblivious when I pulled up beside him and asked him what the **** he was doing. He didn't even see me beside him for a while. Completely unacceptable.

No! why would you indicate when its not clear,
Because the indicator is there for you to indicate your intentions, prior to acting upon them.

the driver overtaking is no mind reader.

Quite. So if you indicate then you're letting the person know you don't just want to dawdle in your current lane, and would like to make progress, so the person to your right can act on this and either speed up, slow down, move over, or do nothing if he so wishes.

.

The indicators are a indication of your intended actions, no driver knows as and when you intend to act upon said indication, your just creating confusion signalling to soon.
Mirrors are used to detect hazards, a car overtaking is a hazard, upon spotting said hazard why would you then jump to the signal stage? :)

Have to agree, a car sitting in the middle lane behind a truck with his indicator flashing does my nut in, I have no idea what he intends on doing or when he's going to pull out, or if he's even seen me about to overtake him.

Bad way of driving IMHO, you should indicate your intentions to move lane only when that lane is clear and your about to move over into that lane.
