Silence is golden...

I f you have the space then have a look a some server cases or just the bigger cases on the market so much easier to work on and air flow is never really a problem, i got a lian li and i dont have any problems with temps and cable managment is great.

i have to say i wasn't impressed with the fractal design when i had one, it is decent for cable management but even filled with fans it wasn't good with cooling. i had 6 fans in it (4 x 120, 2 x 140) and it was still 10c warmer than my stacker 831 so i got rid of it after a fortnight.

then i got a lian li pc-a70fb and it is a wonderful case, possibly my favourite case i have ever owned.

I didn't find the Zalman cooler to be particulary efficient when I had one, and it might benefit you to switch to one of the larger tower type CPU coolers. I'd also have mentioned the GTX but you've covered that.

I didn't find the R2 to be either particularly cool or quiet, and I currently have a Lian Li X500 which is cool and quiet, although I'm not stressing any components which helps, as I don't think the airflow is particularly good.

I'd go for the Lian Li PC-70 personally, but I have no experience of the FT02 which does look particularly good.

Nice tidy job of your interior.

I have finally decided to go for Lancool dragonlord K62 (the poor man's Lian Li) for the moment until my next mega upgrade, hopefully around next christmas when Sandy Bridge has fully matured...
Again thanks for all your help.

But a case is something you don't need to change. Why get something now that you are going to replace in 10 months. May as well get the case you want now - you may still be using it for years to come.

Good point...But I have just received my ordered case and I do not think I will have to replace it in a very long time...It just oozes quality and the space I nedded...Very pleased at the moment:D...
But who knows, since my main requirements are silence, practicality and good cable management I may jump on the water cooling wagon sometime...

Did you just have the stock fans in your 800D? I upgraded mine with 3 120mm sharkoon silent eagles for the roof, and 3 sharkoon 140mm fans for intake, rear exhaust and HDD cooling. It's very cool and with the fan controller is pretty quiet too.

I found my fractua R2 to be cooler and better then any other case I owned including lian li tower cases, I think it was the 3x 120mm fans surround my q6600 cpu :)

Either way Fractual cases are ahead of the curve in terms of silence, they have been built with solid steel which blocks noise and vibrations (but also higher case temps!) also the foam helps too. Overall the temps were ok but overall id say the coolermasters and cases with larger and better flowing fans would be better overall.

Sadly you cant have great cooling followed by silence, its one way or another way... course u can have that inbetween factor where the fractual imo fits in nice.

Fractual R3 or XL are my choices.

I had 4 apache fans in mine (2 at the top, 1 front and 1 exhaust) and it was still louder and warmer than my current Antec 900 with stock fans...
Besides, The case was just too massive for my needs. Even though I loved the general outlook and layout I had to return it for the above reasons:(

Absolutely FT-02. I replaced watercooling with the FT02 air cooled, and when doing work or web browsing it's silent.

The FT-02 is quiet, but I wouldn't ever call it silent. I can still hear a lot of air noise with the 180mm fans on low.
