I'm looking to make my main PC a bit quieter.

One of the fans is making a racket. I've put it down to the PSU (OCZ StealthXStream 500w)

Do I have to get a new PSU or is there something I can get to quieten it down a bit like that anti vibration foam or them rubber washers?

TIA.

It depends whats causing it, if its merely vibration of the whole PSU through the case then yeah some foam feet or similar would help, if its the fan inside then you have to start looking at taking apart psu which is not advisable unless you know what youre doing, go wrong and when you plug it back in chances are your pc could go bang, you might just be better investing in a quality psu like corsair or similar

Replacing the PSU fan isn't usually all that bad really... If you're not confident in doing it yourself though then I would agree with a replacement PSU being the safest option.

I replaced the fan in my PSU the other day, dont be scared by all the horror stories, as long as you show it the respect it deserves then all will be fine.

In my case, the PSU had an 80mm fan in it that was hard-wired into the PCB Board inside the PSU, i just cut this, removed the noisy fan, replaced with a "Noctua NF-R8 80mm Silent Case Fan" here off overclockers for £12.91 and it is very very quiet now.

If i had not done the above, i would have needed to replace the whole PSU which is cost that i didnt want to go to, but it does seem like a waste disposing of the whole PSU just because the fan is noisy, try replacing the fan :)
