Hi all.

I have just gone back to water cooling my cpu.
I have installed the following.
Swiftech DDC 10W
EK 100 top/res
Ek Supreme HF Acetal
EK 360 rad
3/8 fittings (all Bitspower black compression fittings)

The pump is humming quite loudly. It’s the loudest thing in my case!
I have mounted it using the sticky pad directly to the floor of my case.
What is the best way to suppress the pumps noise?

Thanks Matt

Mine was loud too! I have now stuck it on a piece of foam and made sure the only contact it has with the case is through the foam and it is really quiet now :D

Both mine are suspended from the bottom of EK 150 res's via short lengths of tube and make no contact with the case whatsoever. The res's are supported by their plastic clips to the case. The pumps make next to no noise in this configuration.

However, for info, in my recent rebuild I had planned on using rotatable nipples to couple the pump to the res and support the res/pump combo via the res clips to the case. When I did this though there was considerable noise transmitted to the case so went back to coupling via a length of tube. Doesn't look quite as neat but is far quieter.

Thanks for all off your help chaps.

I have placed the DDC on some foam this has improved the hummm.

I have also realised that some vibrations are being transmitted down the tubing to my ssd. I have isolated this also with some foam.

I will re situate my pump tomorrow so that none of the tube touches anything.

I think its worth getting it right!

Can those who run a DDC pump touch it (when running) for me and let me know if you feel some vibrations??

Rgds Matt

ive had a few of these pumps and some vibrate more than others. (especially when in a bay res) the 10w version should have hardly any at all. is it new?

Maybe my expectations were too high. At idle its definatly the loudest compenent in my rig. When gamimng the GPU is the loudest but thats to be expected.

My rig sits next to me on the desk, if it were on the floor I don't think I would not hear it.

I will move the pump tomorrow and see what effect that has.

Thanks again.

Matt

There's two things to consider here, is it in contact with anything and as a few have said, if you suspend it via securely fastened tubing then you can remove this as a source of noise.

The other, generally overlooked, source of noise is the rate of flow through the pump itself, something Mike alludes to above with the comment that 18W DDC pumps are worse for it. I had a two pump loop, where one pump had a high restriction loop and the other had only a CPU block in it. No matter what pump I used in the CPU loop it was persistently noisy even when bled, though it still made that sort of noise. My only explanation was that the pump flowrate was so fast it was cavitating making all the noise which also won't do the pumps long term health any good.

My solution was to tube everything into a single loop with a single pump, resulting in effectively silence.
