Silencing my pc

Months ago I decided to spend quite a bit in order to have my pc silent. So I went with the swiftech kit. The pump is quiet enough no problems there. The problem is the radiator which does make noise from the 2 fans which I can hear easily
Also my Tagan easycoon PSU 580W is audible too

How can I eliminate the noise? any tips?

I don't want noise

Get a watercooled PSU and replace the fans on your Rad with quiet ones like Nexus/Yate Loons.

I spend nearly 20 quid to replace my fans in the rad for the Akasa AK-183-L2 ultra quiet akasa ones. They ain't that quiet unless running on almost zero power and one of them gone busted  and now it makes an irritating rattling noise. Am running a P805 clocked at 4.01Ghz so I neeed some good cooling and power, though am planning to sell this cpu for a conroe in the near future. Does it affect perfomance a lot to the point of my machine crashing if I run the fans at the lowest speed possible?

Do you reckon the nexus ones are better? any factual evidence? how about the Scythe ones?

Tagan was suggested to me as ultra quiet too . water cooled cpus? I kinda like the idea of it ;)

This is the problem with attempting to silence your PC. Much anger can result as you spend hundreds only to hear your hard disks clicking more clearly

Just research, make sure you look around a lot before buying fans. Don't take anyone's word for it that a fan is quiet as there are a lot of misinformed people floating about.

Hi there,

Import some Yate Loon D12SL12 fans. At 5V they are silent and push some air.

The PSU should be ok, if not go for a Seasonic 500W (its enough) and sell your current PSU.

For the HD I reccomend the Scythe SilentBoxx.

water cooled PSU?

Silentmaxx do a 500W watercooled CPU, the alternative is a quiet (120mm fan) PSU but I've found that if you're have a high spec system the fan is running at full speed so it's not so quiet.

You can also get hard drive enclosures which can help minimise HD seek noise.

I've spend money on a tagan 580W and on a Seasonic S12 600W. They are both clearly audible.

I've got these ideas:

Sell both of these (almost new) damned psu's and get a fanless one regardless of it's price!!(I found couple of ones at quiet pc). Silence is of paramount importance!!!
That is going to get rid of the PSU noise so 1-0 so far.

Now we have the rad. Can I find a rad that is fanless? What if i get a water chiller?
Common sense dictates that fans make noise no matter how slowly they run

As far as my hd  :

I bought the Scythe silentbox. It helped silencing my raptor but not quite as much as I wanted:mad:. I guess that if I get enough foam and wrap the raptor box that would help reduce the noise more as right now the slinebox sits on the case.

I found the scythe quiet drive box wasn't very good, even when suspended. However my other identical raptor is in a nexus drive-a-way and thats incredibly quiet, i highly recommend that you get one. It will need suspending aswell to get rid of some of the vibrations, but so will any harddisk box.

Fanless psus make noise. The question is is it audible?
A nexus/yate loon d12sl12 running at 5v cannot be heard with the human ear from 1 metre, maybe even 30cm. Compared to running the radiator passively you'll see far greater performance with even very low airflow fans such as a nexus running at 5v.

If you find the noise of the seasonic a problem either its running at near full load or you are sitting with your ear to it. At low speed the fan in that should not be audible from 1 metre.

I would say that for a setup thats drawing a lot of power and with a very hot cpu a watercooled psu is a bad idea, as it will only add a lot of extra heat to the water that you'll just have to remove. If you really can't find a non watercooled psu thats quiet enough then look at getting a watercooled one and perhaps getting some more radiators and silent fans to dissipate the extra heat.

Very true. Its a never ending loop i'm finding, and an expensive one too.

This quote should be stickied as a warning! Sometimes someone just completely hits the nail on the head with a hammer.
